what would have to happen for Babers to be considered a win for Cuse?

Florida State and Clemson are not going away anytime soon

Everyone is asking that. McMuphy, Wolken, Feldman, Forde, Mandel, etc.

i.e. People that follow the game.

They may follow the game but I would wager a guess that they don't closely follow an individual school in a non-major conference like ECU. That is your shortcoming as well.

I'm not saying that they aren't biased toward other conferences.
I'll also add that I am biased toward the AAC. I would have been very pleased is ECU made the "upgrade" that we heard drove this move.
Let's just say we have different understandings of what "upgrade" means. An upgrade is not a roll of the dice.
Look at USF basketball for instance. When they hired Masiello, I would have called that an upgrade. His work as HC at Manhattan would have justified the hiring. Then, when they fired him over the scandal and hired Antigua, that was a roll of the dice. He was Cals boy just like Scottie Mo was Cutcliffs. Antigua hasn't done anything yet to change that perception (and neither has Cal's other disciple, Pastner).
If ECU would have hired Fritz, then I would see the method behind the madness.
Right now, I think Scottie Mo has Antigua written all over him.

The question wasn't why they hired who they hired, but why they let Coach McNeill go. They let him go because of the lack of progress with the program. Anyone with a clear understanding of the ECU program over the last six years can understand why it was done. Even those that didn't want to let Coach McNeill to go at this point can see why it was done. It isn't a head scratcher at all.

Fuente was 35 and TCUs co-OC...Norvell is 34 and Ariz State's OC/Dep HC...how is that any different?

I think the Baylor system lets teams with less than Top 25 talent get into the Top 25. Scoring lots of points helps bring casual fans back.

I would hope Babers gets Cuse back into the Top 25 within 3 years. I'm not counting on next year being any better than 6 wins...but I think by year 2 you'll see an uptick...

Eventually I think he can get us to the point of occasionally beating a Clemson or FSU.

No one else is using this offense in the ACC and it is basically a cult...you have to grow your own coaches under the Briles tree.

Good hire for Syracuse.

I also think both programs got the fits that worked best.

After O'Leary retired, I think UCF really needed to go with a younger coach this time to energize the young fanbase.

The steal is Tulane's new coach Willie Fritz from Georgia Southern.

I'm hearing (like Tulsa's head coach) Fritz will receive a discounted membership to the local YMCA.

Wouldn't Tulane snagging Fritz without having to open the wallet be a compliment to the potential of the school?

Either its a terrible job or it pays terrible... If you're going to troll pick one. Can't be both.

In 1975 we hired a 34 year old OC, by the name of Richard Williamson, who beat 6 SEC teams as well as the likes of Florida State, Virginia Tech, Southern Miss and most of the schools presently in the AAC during his 6 year reign. Norvell was the 3-highest paid assistant coach in all of college football when hired. Those who examine his career and then hear him speak understand why. So far, I am favorably impressed with the staff he is hiring and his recruiting so far. I never was impressed with Fuente's recruiting - Lynch fell into his lap.

WTF? Memphis FIRED Williamson...could you stop comparing Fuente and Norvell to fired Memphis coaches, please?

Paying Fritz at Tulane well over a million dollars a year. One of the best sleeper hires this year. Will be the tops in the AAC count on it.

Don't let CFF get you riled up. He and Farmer are planted here to do just that. I reacted a couple of times and feel foolish for responding at all.

Had to look up when that was. 1988, wow...you're bragging about beating a team 27 years ago? That's pathetic.

that Florida team had an NFL Hall of Famer (& NFL leading rusher) on it. Also had 5-6 players who were drafted by NFL teams in 88 & 89

Hope it works out. I wonder though why he is just now getting a shot to coach in the upper division at his age. He is in his 50's.
