New Mexico tried to call a timeout with 1 second left at 89-89, but were out of timeouts so Rice shot a technical FT and won 90-89.

UTEP lost by 20 to New Mexico State.

Rice put up 10 points in a 43 second span to make it a 5 point game.

Wow, damn. That's a pretty crappy way to lose. I always thought an assistant coach was supposed to keep track of that specifically to avoid that happening.

Either way, big time win for Rice.

How good or bad is New Mexico State?

They shouldn't be 20 points better than UTEp, who was playing at home.

It looked like the coaching staff had let the team know... The player calls a timeout and then tries to motion the timeout off. Instinct in the situation I guess.

Anyway good win for Rice.

That same thing happened to the famous Michigan "Fab Five" (I think it was Chris Webber) in a similar situation and with similar results as I recall.
