RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting
I spoke with a long time maac asst. coach yesterday and he said COA is and will be a game changer in recruiting. His school offers it and couldnt believe JMU doesnt.

Time for us to shake up admin and demand they offer it.

The maac now requires it for men's and women's basketball. http://www.nycbuckets.com/2015/02/maac-r...trol-ncaa/

I feel our only hope is for the new Commish lead the charge to get the entire CAA to vote supporting COAs.

RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting
JMU's offerings for 2016 at this point amount to one player - Holmes. Meanwhile, they've lost Hollywood and Shepherd. The other player, a forward, that Brady had offered last fall from Team Loaded was recently offered by Georgetown, so we can probably rule him out as an option. Seems like guys being offered in the past few days were players the various staff members were in contact with before they came to JMU, obviously, as they had offers from BG, North Florida or were residents of South Carolina, Florida (from a quick read of that VC site). Signing day starts next Wednesday.

Not if JMU has a say. Any guess which way JMU will pressure the new Commish?

AND guess who chaired the committee that hired said commish?

Not optimistic unless the other CAA schools all push for this. And they might not if they prefer to have a recruiting advantage.

What happens if the league goes against COAs? Can individual schools decide to offer it on their own, or is it a "what the league says goes" type of thing? I'm assuming the latter, but I'm sure schools can get creative and find a work around.

Now that some league members are offering COA's, the league will not go against them. At worst, they'll just call it an "institutional decision" and leave it up to each school.

That being said, if the CAA wants to capitalize on last year, the league needs to mandate COA and help fund it out of shared NCAA credits.

The same guy that penned the missive and rallying cry against the use of COA's, gaining widespread support from an impressive array of esteemed institutions of higher learning. I think there were something like 6-7 additional signatories, were there not?

Good Lord, we are now officially falling behind the maac...

Let that sink in. 07-coffee3

RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting
The COA issue is a very slippery slope and may very well result in the elimination of athletic scholarships at all but the biggest and wealthiest schools If you give COA to MBB players, the immediate next step is to give it to all football players, immediately after that, in the interest of "fairness" you will have to give COA to an equivalent number of Women scholarship athletes and after that......

Anyone who thinks Title IX will not very quickly come into play in this discussion is delusional.

RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting
Feel the Bern....free stuff for everyone! (I mean we can all share dwindling resources evenly as we focus on Fairness for all instead of pay for performance, let the workers work and we can do the hard work on how to share COA set between all based on metrics on attendance, scholarship, gate count, etc. this will work so well we can share COA with everyone with a JAC card! No slip in that slope!

RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting
A couple of days after an article in the DNR about one of JMU's new assistants being an ex AAU coach for Team Takeover and JMU offers a few Team Takeover players for 2017 (one is 3 stars another well recruited 2 stars) from SC, NC, and VA.

Not sure how connected the NC Team Takeover squad and VA Team Takeover squad is but the prior coaching staff had offered some from the VA team (Mastadi Pitt, Mario Haskett, and Antwan Walker).

In fairness that was the footprint that the prior staff had been recruiting heavily the last few years. Hopefully the additional connections on the staff (the prior staff was a Philly staff) will help yield some additional in state and regional recruits moving forward.

They offered a big or two last week- Rowe has stated that he wants to play 1 big rather than 2 but obviously they need one for 17 with everyone graduating.

RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting
i would honestly think about redshirting Satkus this year. Play yoyo and vodo in the one big spot and have Satkus as a super senior.
