Somewhat OT:HS Playoffs
I was really impressed with George Ranch. Great offensive play calling and balance. Their QB isn't the strongest passer but the pass plays called gave him an opportunity to make some easier throws that produced big results. Defensively they were all over Lake Mansfield and their QB who came in as one of the 11th best QB in the nation.
If you are looking for a HS coach to possibly move up I would think you might keep an eye out for the George Ranch HC.

He also seems to be genuinely well-liked among his peers. Translation: He could be an excellent recruiter.
Hint, hint?

George Ranch and Ridge Point are both moving up to 6A next year, so it wasn't surprising both teams made a deep run in the playoffs this year. It will be interesting to see how they do in the future, competing with the likes of Katy, the Pearland/Manvel schools, North Shore, the Woodlands, etc. Both head coach (Tullos and Sniffin) would be good gets for some college staff. But those two programs are on solid ground for a long time - they definitely will be getting the cream of the talent from both FBISD and LISD for years to come.

I was at the North Shore and Katy games. Great football environment. Too bad we can't host the State Championship games more often. My understanding is that this year was a fluke - the games were moved to Houston because the Cowboys had a Saturday night home game scheduled.

I know that everyone thinks Rice Stadium is historic, but until we get rid of the dumpster fire of men's bathrooms (pee walls) on the visitors side of the stadium, we will rarely host big HS games....

Mississippi State put more than $75 million of improvements into Davis Wade Stadium, with expanded capacity, a second replay scoreboard, and new refreshment stands. When I went to a game there in the 2014 season, I was impressed with how it all looked - complete with fancy luxury boxes, too (I sat in the stands). But, I was amazed to find that their bathrooms were just like those at Rice Stadium: pee troughs, only with much less room. And, though there were infinitely more concession areas (the stadium had 55,000 that day), the lines were long and painfully slow.
Sure, Rice needs to upgrade the stadium "experience", but the grass isn't always greener ....

I agree, a lot of the older stadiums I went to in the southeast had troughs for the men's bathrooms, even the updated ones. Most efficient way to move people through. Our concessions probably need to be permanently built into the concourse when we upgrade them. The wide areas at HRS really make it seem like you aren't crowded in (even when we have larger crowds on the home side) and I really enjoy that.
