SWTCC - David Burrell vs. Jimario Rivers
Saluki SF David Burrell, who transferred there for this season, is averaging about the same as Rivers, more points, less rebounds, but generally about the same. Hits 37% from 3 as well - wonder if they pulled the trigger too quick on Rivers or if they would take both. He certainly seems like the better player this far into the season.

Really surprised they aren't after David Burrell at SWTCC - averages the same as Rivers, but the difference is Burrell knocks down a few more treys...or Marquise Williams who is not too far away at Columbia State right on the southwest side of Nashville - 6-8 F out of Georgia who is averaging 13 and 12 (second best rebounder in the NJCAA and a few spots better than Arlando Cook out of Connors who the Tigers offered and ended up at Arkansas).

Our recruiting is reaching incredible new heights!

I wish we had Williams on this year's squad. One more big and one less guard would be great.

I don't know if he's any good or not - probably really a 6-6 beanpole - but he does average the same numbers as Cook, who the Tigers offered, and he is practically in the backyard.

Columbia State lists him at 6-8, 225 for what it's worth.
But that's a lot of rebounds even if you're playing Upward.

It's a pretty tough division - SWTCC Motlow Columbia and Walters.

The Chargers trail Southwest Tennessee, Motlow State and Walters State in the conference standings. Southwest won at Motlow 83-80 on Friday night, improving to 16-3 and 8-1. Motlow is 15-4, 7-2. Walters is 15-5, 7-2.

RE: SWTCC - David Burrell vs. Jimario Rivers
Article from match-up earlier this year yet no mention of Rivers making a difference at all. In fact, the best player on the floor was a former UT walk-on.

MEMPHIS — The rivalry between Columbia State and Southwest Community College has been one of the best in junior college basketball for the last three seasons.

The Chargers and Saluqis have played six times during that span, with each winning three times. Both have been nationally ranked, with Southwest losing only 11 times since 2013-2014 and Columbia State qualifying twice for the NJCAA tournament.

“When Columbia State and Southwest play, it’s special,” CSCC coach Winston Neal said.

It was Saturday night.

Columbia State rallied from a 49-39 halftime deficit to defeat Southwest 93-86. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Saluqis (10-3, 5-1 Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association).

The Chargers needed every minute from Braxton Bonds to polish off Southwest, which lost to CSCC in Columbia in 2014 and to the Chargers in the TJCAA tournament last season in Memphis.

The University of Tennessee transfer from Nashville played all 40 minutes, finishing with 28 points, seven assists and six assists. CSCC improved to 8-3 overall, 4-3 in the conference.

“I couldn’t afford to let Braxton sit for a second,” Neal said. “He played his best game of the season. He was unbelievable.”

So was center/power forward Marquise Williams, a 6-foot-8 bruiser from Milledgeville, Ga. He had 13 points and 12 points as Columbia State showed it’s a contender again for the conference championship along with Southwest.

“Our defense was fabulous down the stretch,” Neal said. “We started getting steals and easy layups. It’s a great accomplishment to come to Memphis and win a regular-season game.”

Southwest led 49-39 at halftime behind an athletic lineup that included high-scoring forward David Burrell, blazingly fast point guard Brandon Key and flashy guard Lorenzen Wright Jr. The Saluqis were ahead by 15 in the first half before the Chargers came back.

“For some reason, we’re a second-half team,” Neal said. “It takes us a half to figure out how to attack somebody. I was very proud of our guys. We showed a lot of fight. We could have wilted several times in the first half.”

Bonds made 10 of 14 shots, including 2 of 3 three-point attempts.

Rivers has had a drop off in production the last few games as compared to earlier in the season.

Overall, I guess his numbers are fine and he doesn't play a ton of minutes.

It just seems he's not that much different/better than some other guys in the region.

A 10 and 6 JUCO guy equates to about a 5 and 3 high D1 guy. So expect about that.

Stan Simpson was a 13 and 8 guy, Burrell a 25 and 8 guy and Woodson a 13 and 6 guy.

Maybe Rivers is better, but Burrell has better stats?

Maybe it's part of that new recruiting strategy?

No offense - but I am so tired of having to talk about JUCO basketball recruits. Recruiting used to be so much fun...just sad now.
