Big Ten Revenues and Expenses 2014-15
You might have read an article about the programs that earned at least $100 million in revenues for the past year. Go to the page below to get the data on revenues and expenses, then search by the conference:

http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/GetOneInstitutionData.aspx

Reporting Year: 7/1/2014 - 6/30/2015

http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/InstList.aspx

Summary:

In terms of revenues, Ohio State is the highest at $170,903,135 while Rutgers is the lowest at $65,125,833. Ohio State again leads in expenses at $136,966,818 and Rutgers is last at $65,125,833.

The SEC average is the highest, followed by the Big Ten.

RE: Big Ten Revenues and Expenses 2014-15
I get page not found errors with those. Interesting from what you posted though. I knew Ohio State would be spending the most, but I didn't expect the discrepancy vs. Rutgers to be quite so large. That said, while TV is far from everything in this (big as it is, still only one factor), Rutgers still is buying their ownership stake into the Big Ten Network which limits some things for sure. As I understand it, that basically they automatically get payments from the network for the conferences agreement to show games on it (similar to ESPN, ABC, etc), but each school owns a certain percent of the network and makes money off that too (from the profits of the network as opposed to the agreement to show games) and all new members have to buy in to make up for the other schools loosing a portion. Maryland will be similar, but as part of their negotiation into the Big Ten had that buy-in delayed somewhat. This might not be entirely right, but I think is pretty close.

I do like that Rutgers was revenue neutral though as I now that was a big deal a few years ago.

Note that in these figures, you are revenue neutral at worst, since they include subsidies from the school as a revenue to the athletic department. That is why there is more revenue allocated to the men's teams than costs allocated to the men's teams, while they are exactly equal for the women's teams ... the subsidies to the women's teams are counted as revenue to each team, and they are equal to costs.

This information can show surpluses, but not losses.
