#1 Michigan State visits Northeastern
The #1 team in the nation comes to Boston for a date with the Huskies in Matthews arena. Capacity is around 5,000 or so, and it's never been full for a basketball game since I was a freshman in 2006.

Really exciting for the team, I hope the students come out in full force and make some noise. Who knows, if we can hang around, maybe just maybe we can steal this game. This team lead by Walker and Ford always seem to play to their competition (up and down) the last couple seasons.

You beat me to this STL.

The buzz is really palpable from what I've been told.

Heading up to Beantown from NYC Friday. Plan on taking in the women's hoops game with a walkup ticket.

Have tickets for the hoops and hockey double dip Saturday!

I will similarly be heading up to Boston from NYC Friday. Won't get there in time for the women's game. I will be at both legs of the double header on Saturday.

The article mentions this is the second time we've ever played the #1 team in the country. Do you know who was the first? I have no idea and can't seem to find it.

I saw that too.
I know when they beat Louisville in 1986 in the Great Alaska Shootout, Louisville was #2.

I'm guessing one of the years the played Duke in Durham from 1993 to 1995 (NU did a 3 for 1 deal with them) Duke was probably #1.

Well I thought we actually played pretty well. Got to the free throw line, limited turnovers, and rebounded well. Problem was we shot 52% from FT line and 12% from 3. We had a lot of open looks we missed in the first half, and the 2nd half was tougher. To be honest the wasn't a whole lot different from this game than Miami other than us being hot from 3 against Miami. I'm not down in the dumps. Was closer than the final score for most of the game.

As for the game. Was kind of par for the course when you play the #1 team.

I thought we played real well defensively and took Valentine out of the game for most of the 1st half before they scored a few baskets right before the half to push the lead to 9.

They also got away with a brutal non foul call on Stahl's layup attempt that would have made a 2 point game with under 2 minutes in the half.

The midway through the second half we got gassed as their depth wore us down.

December 7, 1992 was the first of four consecutive seasons that the teams met. It was a Monday and Duke was Number 1 in the poll released earlier that day.

Was Jim Calhoon, who ended up as the Coach at UCONN during their glory years, the coach at Northeastern in the early 1990s? I know he was the NE coach before UCONN - just don't remember when.

Calhoun's last year with NU was 1985-1986.

His top assistant Karl Fogel was the head coach until 1994.

Here's a clip from the Reggie Lewis 20th Anniversary of his Death special on Comcast a few years ago.

Jim Calhoun featured prominently in this clip ...
