RE: Upcoming Visit
That tight end will visit us this weekend and Alabama next weekend. Has visited Texas and A&M... Committed to A&M but that was in October. They are in shambles right now. This would be a HUGE pick up

At 6'4" 230lbs Irvin Smith would be a monster upgrade at TE. He has the big time size and speed we need at this position to make our offensive scheme "GO!"

A big swing for us is playing time. Kid could be a 3 or 4 yr starter. At A&M or Bama they sign and over recruit each position every year.

Interesting tidbit on his other visits:
- Texas - his HS teammate and also a TE committed here
- Alabama - has 2 TEs already committed

RE: Upcoming Visit
Looks like this kid has all the tools and big time schools after him. So my question is why is he only rated a 3* recruit?

His Sr year highlights
Very promising. I like his blocking effort.

247's comments on TE Smith:

http://247sports.com/Bolt/Texas-AM-tight...s-42826518

"At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds Smith has ideal size and speed for a tight end in the Tigers fast paced offensive system. Memphis is losing longtime tight end redshirt senior Alan Cross, but do have Daniel Montiel backing him up. Montiel is primed for a breakout season as the starting tight end."

A little tid bit of info.....Coach Norvell and Montiel both played their high school football in Arlington, Texas.

That's great. I'm getting so excited to see what these guys are going to be able to accomplish with a full cycle to work with. Just getting this kid in for a visit is great. He's got offers from Alabama, LSU, Florida, Texas, Michigan, and pretty much every other school imaginable.

3 years of eligibility left. 3 to play 3. Washington signee out of high school, redshirted there, then JUCO one year. Which was shortened from a broken thumb.

Norvell and his staff putting the work in.

Totally agree that it will be really fascinating to see them recruit for a FULL cycle in 2016/17.

Also, good point on Davis needing to focus more on winning the TIGER QB job instead of griping about new QB recruits Norvell brings in. This is a highly competitive sport. Go compete.

I spoke to Brady and his dad in Birmingham. They look at the signing of QB's as a way of increasing competition. Neither bitched or moaned about it. Brady looks forward to the challenge this spring!

That's what I figured. The young man screams class and maturity for his age.

No matter who wins the starting job, we need quality depth and it looks like we will have that in spades at QB next year (especially if Howard honors his commit). If so, I would venture to say that we will have the most quality depth ever at QB. Win, win situation for all concerned as the competition will make all the young men better.
