Illinois is a mess because their football coach/team is a mess and there is no AD right now. There's not a huge scandal at Illinois, just a lot of turnover. Even so, Illinois is a P5 school and it is a very good job, even amongst P5 schools. I would probably put the Illinois AD job as a slightly-lower-than the median job in the P5, which puts it above every G5 AD job out there.

Heck, Texas' AD was a booster until they hired him as the interim (now permanent though '17-'18) AD,

Not sure I'd be interested in the IL AD job. Perennial losers (occasional BB success) in most sports & lot of athletics turn over. Probably bigger salary but not a destination job & it has the likely peril of being fired on the resume.

*IF* we get a BXII invite it will be guys like Brad Martin, Fred Smith, Boone Pickens et al that get that done. Is the 'Brad Martins' that we can't afford to loose --

Sorry pet peeve, lose not loose.

Get someone else in to spearhead the facilities project and deal with basketball this offseason.

Timing-wise, this would work well.

And this is as it should be. Be loyal to the university not it's hierarchy. They come and go but the university will always stand strong! Go Tigers!!!

Things are going well for Bowen right now and like Fuente he's going to make hay while the sun shines.

The only things good about the IL AD job are it likely pays more & is at a P5 school. But it comes with great risk, given their constant turn-over. And IL has shown no hesitancy in firing coaches & ADs.

Great point. Totally agree.

Is Illinois really a "step up"? Is having a lower level P5 job that big a deal for an AD like it is a coach?
