UCF Fiesta Bowl Tickets
According to this article, UCF returned $3.4M worth of Fiesta Bowl tickets in 2013.

Question: Did the conference help UCF out with this shortfall? If so, how much? Or did the school have to bear all the cost?

Houston is currently projected to return about $1M worth of tickets to the Peach Bowl.

RE: UCF Fiesta Bowl Tickets
They forced UCF fans to travel from Orlando, Florida to Glendale, Arizona and we still had more fans than Ohio St did at the Orange Bowl. Most likely would sell out our allotment (or come close to it) had it been the Sugar Bowl or Orange Bowl.

But yeah, I believe The American helped cover that cost.

RE: UCF Fiesta Bowl Tickets
Couldn't find much---but apparently the conference helped to a degree. The loss was pretty large for UCF because they only sold about 5K tickets and the Fiesta Bowl back then required a larger ticket allotment (17,500) than the Peach does now.

UCF will need to sell at least 13,000 tickets to break even financially, but the school will also have access to the $1 million pot set aside by the American Athletic Conference to offset losses from bowl ticket sales.

"The conference and all of my counterparts are committed to making sure … that at the end of the day the bowl experience is financially sensible," UCF athletic director Todd Stansbury told the Orlando Sentinel on Saturday. "A lot of things still have to shake out. I'm extremely confident that our conference, like all other major conferences, are going to make this a great experience as well as a situation where we all benefit."

Given that the majority of the AAC came from CUSA, where the conference covered allotment shortfalls, I'd be surprised if this issue hasn't been corrected. I feel certain UConn would vote for it.

Can't you guys just fly to Atlanta? It's an airline hub and cheap vacation. Maybe students can road trip, many did to Orlando a few years ago.

The access bowl pays $4m to the conference, plus another $2m to the conference to help out with travel.

RE: UCF Fiesta Bowl Tickets
The game is on New Year's Eve day. At noon. The cheapest ticket that UH has to sell is $150. That's more than many pay for a season ticket with 7 home games. Throw in air fare, hotel, food and drink, and it's an expensive trip.

Also, New Year's Eve day is on a Thursday and most Coog fans don't get paid till Friday...

Yeah, the UCF crowd was small; it's unreasonable to think that most schools can take a large crowd across the country on relatively short notice. But hey, we were louder and more committed than the stadium full of Baylor fans.

It's def' not a "cheap" vacation. We have spent more then $1,500 each on airfare, hotel and tickets to the game. Of course, that does not include food, drinks and other entertainment once we get there.

$1,169 each for game ticket and to stay at the team hotel. Our flight out of Houston was $425 each. It will be a blast and well worth it...but, it definitely adds up quick!

I believe UCF lost $600K. The planes tickets from Orlando were like $900 each...I still went. Once in a lifetime.

RE: UCF Fiesta Bowl Tickets
I would imagine the huge publicity from the appearance, and then the great win, would eclipse to some degree the monetary loss...

I know among the 6 bowls/12 slots some are contracted to certain conferences, but I think they need to do what the smaller bowls do and somehow align a bit to geography. Stupid for UCF or UConn to go Fiesta with the Orange and Sugar so much closer.

Hopefully this conference learned it's lesson and covered the costs. The press UConn got hit with for selling 900 tickets leas than Oklahoma was all due to the big east not eating the tickets like the big 12 did for Oklahoma.

The plane tickets were insanely priced. I know a lot of people who wanted to go, but couldn't afford to drop $1k on plane tickets alone.

How in the world did Bouse St sell all their tickets to their 3 Fiesta Bowls in 07, 2010 and last year??? Boise has to be at 1,000 miles from Tempe right? Anyone got specifics on that? Cheers!
