New Sawyer Hall?
I've been hearing from some of my old colleagues that they're looking at replacing the current iteration of Sawyer Hall, and as a student at the time of it's demolition it would be cool to see the three sisters standing again. Not sure if anyone else had heard anything about this, but it looks like President Ono just confirmed it via the Board meeting. The UC Skyline (funny that we've actually GOT one) is about to change dramatically.

University of Cincinnati will build a new high rise residence hall and dining facility on the site of Sawyer Hall."

I'm assuming it will be in line with Morgens and Scioto in design and functionality. It always puzzled me why they tore down one but left the other two standing.

Demolition set: Sawyer Hall is coming down

Here's a New Record article on the decision to demo it. Nothing really substantive, just that energy costs were so high that it was more cost effective to demo than reno it.

Funny how the article talks about there being plenty of campus housing in '06 (my first year at UC) and since then we've had record year after record year of incoming freshmen. So less than 10 years after the decision to tear it down, a decision had to be made to build something back.

It is exciting that there is such a need in our university to expand and grow. But on the other hand I do have concerns of the viability of continued college growth across the entire country (aka student loan bubble).

Good news. The makeover of these three buildings adds a huge upgrade to the aesthetics of campus. They were an eyesore in the midst of interesting architecture on our campus.

RE: New Sawyer Hall?
There was a rumor Sawyer was demolished due to structural damage. Someone working on the building jack hammered part of the foundation. I was never able to substantiate the rumor though.
