It went up by $150,000 in 2014, making it $2.1 million

My thoughts too Sundance.

My guess was $1.4m, a $500K increase from his reported $900K OC salary at Arizona State.

$1.8M is more than Fuente made in Year 4, which was around $1.7M.

I'm thinking the same thing. Let's all hope he earns it.

His buyout is that same as Fuente's buyout was. Does that mean that he negotiated a low buyout like some claim Fuente did?

Maybe it's a show of force? A way to show the world we are hitters?

ESPN is reporting that Norvell's contract is for five years and he will be paid a base salary of 'just north' of $1.9M per season.

Seems high to me. Not sure why we had to pay him this much, but all's well if he wins. I used to say I trust they guys spending their own money but Pastner doe.

That assistant pool puts us higher than a chunk of the bottom of the P5, unless a bunch of them step it up.

Mizzou just paid $2.3m for Odom, and to me that's a bit more of a risky hire as a head coach. Norvell was Deputy Head Coach this past year, and if anyone understands the relationship Todd Graham and Norvell had over the years, we can be assured that he was exposed to much of the requirements of a head coach.

So for a non-P5 salary for a coordinator it may be high, but for a P5 team its not.

RE: Norvell salary announced
The difference may be that we are a winning program so we can afford to pay more. In the past....had we had a losing program....maybe we would not have paid so much for a coach and not had many high paid coaches to talk to about the job. Not sure if that is a factor but it may be. Also in 2012 when we hired Fuente, we were in C USA and now we are in a much better conference with a good TV package. We have a very visible upside also which means we had a better selection of coaches to recruit since Fuente had already proven that a winning program at Memphis was attainable in a very short time. The old "Memphis....the coaches graveyard"....had been debunked thus more good coaches were interested in the job.

Has he hired a DC yet?

The boosters want to pay a high salary to show to any prospective p5 conference that we are committed to winning in football. This is the highest priority

also a bit of risk to leave the comforts of a PAC-12 program for one on the outside. I'm fine with the salary and elated by the assistant pool

Wasn't this what Steve Ernhart mentioned on Parrish's show? That Bowslby wanted to know if Memphis was committed to football post-Fuente?

That's a goofy comment. We just went 9-3 two years in a row, the best two year run ever (or in modern times at least). We were paying Fuente well, and offered more. We had a good attendance average. Sure, Bowlsby, now were just going to pull the rug out from under it and be happy to go back to struggling.

He's getting a little senile I think. He quite often makes comments that BigXII AD's and presidents come out and dispute in their local news.
