WaPo Article on LU's 1-A Trajectory
A good article from the Washington Post about Notre Dame acknowledging our 1-A trajectory to Jerry Jr.

Good Lord willing, it will happen eventually. Too much money and market forces involved to prevent it from happening.

Thanks to libertyflamesnation.com on the find.

RE: WaPo Article on LU's 1-A Trajectory
Nice write up and sentiment. Sure would be nice if there was a path that was in our control to get to FBS. I don't see it happening anyway anytime soon. In the anti-Christian climate of our nation and particularly public universities, there is no way a conference or the NCAA will make an easy path for Liberty. Likewise, public universities strapped for money and dependent on the government for life don't want to compete against a self sustaining university that is well funded in athletics. Bringing us to their level would potentially bury them further athletically due to our potential.

HOWEVER, God's ways are not man's ways. His ways are higher. If he wants us in FBS we will get there. Our job is simple..... Honor and glorify God while training champions for Christ.

I would LOVE that, though I'd mostly love any FBS outcome. Heck, I'd love FBS independent and Big South everything else. It would suck for all the other sports but as long as we got a foothold into FBS then I'd be happy. The only thing I'd have to think twice about is FBS independent and independent everything else. That would likely really harm our non-football sports at the expense of football and I don't know if it is worth it.

I don't think the Big East would ever want a politically-divisive Christian school like Liberty but at least we are private just like them. We don't have the academic credentials that they do and will probably require in a member but I'd love to be with them even though I don't really care about them now. Maybe, with a ton of luck, we can get into the Atlantic 10 in the meantime with FBS football independence.

I have a really bad feeling that we won't move up unless there is a big shakeup from the top of the P5 schools. That would require, at minimum, the Big 12 adding two schools. If that happens, and we somehow move up, then it could be a long time (if ever) the P5 add another school and if we want to be that school then we have so much ground to make up and to leapfrog others who have been preparing for decades. If we want to eventually be a P5 school, the sooner we get to FBS the better.

I wish! The bowl games this year have me Jonesing for FBS. Not that we'd ever get invited to a bowl game anyway. The Big East? 04-jawdrop That's quite a wish! Basketball would have nothing to do with us at this point. I would love it though..... not as much as the AAC. Not even sure how a Big East invite would be possible or reasonable at this time.

I dont think its your religious beliefs. BYU is a mormon school and everybody loves them. They also have a very strict political neutrality policy. Their administration does not get involved in politics.

Everybody loves them? Is that why they sit in independent no man's land with no P5 conference offering an invitation?

Thats a power conference issue not likability or desirability issue.

In the article noone mentions their religious affiliation or politics. The byu decision to leave MWC was about $$$$ and media.

The Big XII & Pac-12 decisions not to add them in the last go-around and the likelihood that they get passed over again by the Big XII in spite of being the clearly best candidate would suggest otherwise.

Do they even want to be in a conference? Or are they trying to follow the Notre Dame model, minus the conference game tie in with the ACC.

BYU wants in a P5 conference as bad as we want FBS. They have tried for years to get into the PAC 10 (now obviously the PAC 12). But the PAC 12 schools have denied BYU pretty hard, so bad that they invited fellow in-state school Utah which is arguably worse than BYU in many metrics rather than invite BYU. I wouldn't call BYU a school everyone loves.
