Scouting:
Unlike the last Tiger opponent, Southern is a pretty good shooting team. Against D1 opponents they are shooting 44.6% FG, 40.4% (30) 3pt and 65.9% FT. The Tigers only allow 30.2% from 3 but that is partially because they have faced some really poor shooting teams. Of Southern's 3 most active 3-point shooters they shoot 47%, 47% and 38% from 3. Southern doesn't shoot a lot of 3's though averaging around 16 per game. As probably expected with a guard heavy lineup Southern is pretty good with steals at 8 per game (30). Opponents average 16 turnovers per game against Southern. Southern also doesn't turn the ball over very much only averaging 12 per game. Southern doesn't have a lot of size inside and isn't a very good rebounding team so the Tigers should have an advantage there.

Trivia:
Southern is one of 5 Louisiana schools that Memphis will play this year. The others are Grambling State, La Tech, Nichols State and Tulane.

Dedric Lawson is in the top 10 among freshman players in scoring (tied 9th) and rebounding (5th). He is one of 4 freshman players to average over 16 points and 8 rebounds per game. Dish has it listed as channels 412-22 (MASN), 412-34 (ALT), & 412-35 (ALT), requires the "multi-sport" subscription.

I'm going to assume those programs weren't DI at the time.

The site lists Central Arkansas and Houston Baptist as non-Southland (or non-Great West or whatever that non-automatic conference Houston Baptist was with for a while) members for those seasons, so I'm guessing they were still transitional. I guess it counted for our win total, dunno.

I thought we had played Mississippi Valley as well. I keep forgetting that half the Southland ended up in the sun belt
