His a$$ is on the line with this hire, no doubt. Incredible risk with an incredible upside.

At least, your AD didn't sign a deal to play at Yale.

This guy wins less than 9 games Compher will be fired. More than 9 he might be fired.

There was no hire more intriguing. 04-cheers

I agree that it's feast or famine with this one... I like going young OC.. but this doesn't seem like the innovative young OC type, like UCF and Memphis (or Houston) went after.. I dunno, this hire seems like the good old grab bag that you could get anything..

I really hope he pans out.

You probably should have contacted the Oklahoma State OC that Tulane interviewed. He's green as grass too but I think they have a proven track record with their OCs at least. (Tulane was right to stay away from him though)

Well if we were gonna go completely unproven OC at least he's got very strong local recruiting ties, some NFL experience, and not that this should matter but him being black probably will at least end the talk about race being an issue in the Ruff decision.

What knowledge about him do you have to indicate that he isn't "the innovative young OC type"? The Duke offense worked pretty well considering they didn't have a very good QB this year. Winning at Duke is a hard thing to do and they have been doing it. If Cutcliff had enough confidence to hire him back after being away for two years and promote him to OC/AHC then that seems to be a good indicator that there is something there. Obviously he impressed the AD and search firm.

There's no doubt that Compher is tied to this hire for better or worse. This certainly wasn't a splash hire, my worry is he is so young I'm not sure what type of staff he can put together. I have heard that he is a really good recruiter. Duke's recruiting class is actually rated really high this year so hopefully we will be able to do well there. I'll be interested to hear him speak.

One major difference is that CJ had never been more that a WR's coach. But other than that, pretty similar.

12th best coordinator under 40. 2 spots behind Memphis' new HC. Funny how some of the trolls called that a good hire.

I made a comment about race on this board and was quickly shut down. Did race come up as an issue from other more reputable sources?

I don't think it played a factor in the firing, but I do think there were some outside forces trying to make noise that it did. So it should put a pretty quick end to any of that talk.

Race wasn't an issue.
