Oh Holy Shoot. This guy played pros and also freaking Coached the Pittsburgh Steelers WRs for 3 years. Alright this guy is good in my book.

Steelers and ECU Meeting together? This is a great Christmas present.

Depends on how you look at it. To me, we may as well have kept McNeill.

But, after the firing I believe this guy will be able to keep the recruits we have and I don't think we'll see defections. Maybe we'll be able to land some better recruits due to his connections in the Triangle. Maybe he'll be able to make something happen with the recruits in our own back yard that we lose. NFL experience is also a good thing. He's part of two good coaching trees and David Cutcliffe saw it fit to hire him back at a promotion. Sometimes you can't beat getting good, young talent.

Another way to look at it is that he isn't a name like Hoke or Chizik. He's not experienced and may not have the options or connections for a staff.

Any way you look at it the hire was a gamble. He is a good recruiter at a place that's tough to succeed.

Played 5 years in the NFL.
Coached at Duke, then the Steelers for a couple of years, then 2 more at Duke as OC/AHC.
37 years old.

I think this has the potential to be a good hire.

David Cutcliffe, Manning brothers, NC recruiting. Bear choice Compher could have made

Scottie is exactly what Compher said he was going after. Young..high energy..good background and someone that strives for championships. I dont know what to think tonight but regardless...I will support Comphers decision. Evidently Scottie impressed him. I think he can pick up where Ruff left off...hold the recruits and do a very good job recruiting NC. He might even help us East of I95 right into the Triangle. He seems to be a quality individual and someone that can help heal some of the wounded in the Pirate Nation. My biggest concern is him being able to put together a quality staff. I wonder if he will do a dual job of HC and OC and put the money towards the rest of the staff. I guess we will see.

after looking this guy up,

the cons
-he honestly doesn't have the greatest resume and duke is the only college experience he has
-Duke isnt the greatest team

the pros
looks to be a great recruiter..id be shocked if when its all said an done he isnt the best ecu recruiter in their history (star wise)..a young coach who played in the nfl, who is from the area, who also coached in the league for a little..i can see a ton of recruits eating that up

this is a pure experiment but of all the options is the one with highest ceiling (also the highest chance of failure)

Withers was the safest pick, likely a 7-9 win team on a regular basis but i doubt youd have pushed for greatness with him
i didnt say it before but i thought hoke would have been a horrible hire 90% of the years he coached were bad
chizick was past his prime, like coker at utsa

im curious if ecu fans will have patience with him, he is like a taggart hire in many ways

I agree. If we can start pulling down the Triangle and Eastern NC kids who are going elsewhere using a young energetic guy, we'll be alright.
