Canisius @ Kent State
The Golden Griffins are 3-5 with wins over Monmouth, Cornell and Lehigh. The losses are to Hofstra, St. Bonaventure, Quinnipiac, Buffalo and Penn State.
What stands out are some of the scores. Defense seems optional for Canisius. Here are a few of the finals from the games listed above:
@Hofstra 96-85 (loss)
vs. Lehigh 98-89 (win)
@Buffalo 98-96 (loss)
vs. Monmouth 96-86 (win)
Leading the charge for the Griffins is 6'0 senior guard Malcolm McMillan who averages 20 points a game and is shooting 40% from three point land. The leading rebounder (8.5 rpg) is 6'4 senior guard Jamal Reynolds. Another good one is Phil Valenti. The 6'7 junior is the 2nd leading scorer (16.3 ppg) and rebounder (6.9 rpg). Valenti is shooting 46% from the field.
Sure, Canisius can score. But there should be no way they come into the MAC Center at drop 80+ on Kent State. If the Flashes control the pace of the game, keep CC off the offensive glass and shoot a decent percentage then 7-2 is right there.
Kent State 74
Canisius 70
Pollard gets the basket down the stretch and finishes at the line!

Nice win. We kept going up by 8 and letting them cut it to two except when it counted in the last four minutes or so. Marvin Jones looked pretty good in his minutes. If they can develop him this year it would help. He sure outplayed Spicer tonight.

Spicer apparently was sick.
But I thought Ortiz, Davis, Jones all looked good.

Ortiz played an exceptional game last night. A double - double in 23 minutes will never be the rule but those sort of quality minutes from a senior post makes this team that much better...2 blocks and a steal are always nice too.
Southern Methodist is currently 7-0 with wins over Sam Houston State, Stanford, Yale, TCU and a ars kicking of Michigan. Looking forward to previewing this one and looking forward to seeing what the Flashes bring to the table vs. the Mustangs.

The way Jones and Davis played last night was very encouraging not just going forward this year but for next year when Spicer and Ortiz are gone. Davis looked really comfortable operating around the basket and did a good job of contesting around the rim.

You are correct about it not being the rule, but he is capable of that every single night if he puts in the effort. The only thing stopping him is himself.

RE: Canisius @ Kent State
The game as a whole was fun to watch, but Kent State had a few plays where we had two or three really fast passes under the basket leading to an easy shot. I think a couple of them involved Pollard and Ortiz. Great to see - hard to defend against
