I think, as a commish, Mike Aresco has always placed a great importance on basketball. Perhaps that stems from his time at UConn. The investments we're seeing at places like Tulane (Dunleavy) and UCF (Dawkins) reflect an overall expectation of the conference that he's had a big part in instilling.

Whatever happens, I'm pretty sure he'll be devising a way to ensure the success of the American on the court. He hears UConn.

I hope that's enough to get us a good look.

One of the most winningest programs in CFB and not far removed from the Orange Bowl PLUS we do have some of the highest TV ratings (right up there with the top of the AAC) if all of the G5 programs.

The academies are the only programs the AAC would consider for fb-only.
See you say that, but i believe differently and have seen and heard things while working in NIU athletics that lead me to believe differently

Would the MAC be willing to keep NIU for non-football sports? Seems pretty unlikely.
Would the Horizon League go to 12 for say, NIU and Belmont?

Bring them aboard I say. With Memphis, Cincy, Uconn leaving and SMU being Brown-less we need more basketball oomph

I think you bring Wichita State into the fold as long as Navy stays with the conference, if they leave, then there is no point. I think the Mountain West made a mistake not taking them unless Hawaii plans to leave the conference at some point.

Even if its just Houston/BYU leaving to the Big 12, I say you pick up Wichita State.

Problem is if 4 bolt then you're down with a major problem with Olympic sports. 5 baseball teams as an example. 7 hoops teams.

The AAC is going to add members and I don't think they would stand-pat at 10 members, they'd go back to 12. I only think they'll lose two members in Cincinnati & Houston, they would most likely be replaced with ODU or UMass & Rice.

I doubt we will add if we lose 2 unless the networks demand it. ODU is a good candidate, but they even need to grow in d-1. Rice is terrible with no fan support. Umass I don't think will take FB seriously.

If we did expand....Army has to be #1 with hopefully ODU at #2. WSU would help adding Olympic sports.

Navy has some pull and would push for the addition of Rice so they have a game in Texas every year, plus higher academic schools in the AAC would like Rice for their endowment, academics & AAU status. Rice would invest more into athletics being in the AAC too and they have a top-tier baseball program, and the sport has become a revenue generator now too.

I hope our leaders want fans and the excitement that comes with it. I've never heard someone say after a loss "i'm just happy about their academic standing".

Boise State got a few BCS wins being an equivalent of a community college.
