AT&T GigaPower Expansion
AT&T expands its fiber internet service to 38 new cities

"AT&T's mission to blanket most of the US with gigabit internet is moving at full speed. Today, the network revealed that its GigaPower fiber service is coming to 38 more cities, adding to the 18 metro areas it's already available in. The newly announced places include Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland and Memphis, along with 29 others. In a blog post, AT&T said that it's not done either, noting that it plans to bring GigaPower to over 14 million locations, both residential and commercial.

RE: AT&T GigaPower Expansion
You have to be very careful when dealing with AT&T. I live in a rural area and have fastest internet service offered in our area. I was suppose to be getting 5 in and 3 out. I checked our speed and it is 1.35 in and .025 out. I called AT&T, they said this was within their parameters. This is their fastest internet in our area?????

I should edit this is apparently a new announcement for today, 10.18.2016
AT&T expands Memphis fiber service

Hopefully this dramatically improves speeds to support the needs of our community, especially fostering technical curiosity of the next generation, to keep us competitive.

You had DSL - this is fiber. AT&T lied about uverse - it was supposed to be fiber when it was first advertised and then their marketing figured out they could advertise dsl and tv as uverse and people would buy it

My God, that's awful. I complain to Comcast when mine drops to 20 mg down and 2 up, it's usually about 180 mg down and 24 up, and I live in Eads. Granted, Comcast isn't the most reliable service in the world, but when it works, it works well.

I have Att everything and hate the bastards. Customer service sucks

I left a note on the cable they had in my yard to not eff up my irrigation system. They came about 6 inches from really screwing it up.

That round went to cincy and then Nashville got the next one. AT&T is trying to block Nashville's rollout through lobbying.

AT&T is tying to beat google to the punch.

Actually, they buried cable in our neighborhood a few weeks ago. I'm in HW but have an Arlington address.

Even though they buried cable in my yard it's still not available at my address yet.

It's not just about the cable (although that arguably is one of the more expensive steps). If they are running fiber cable and they are planning on terminating it to your house you will get it soon enough. I know they are rolling out quickly because they are seeking a lot of easements.

Right. They ran the cable all along the highway from 64. They also ran it along the streets in our neighborhood in our front yards.

I was actually quite impressed. I was worried they'd mess up my irrigation system.

All they did was plug a hole on each side of my lot next to the street then "pushed" the cable through the ground and out the other hole. Didn't have to dig a trench.

Anyway, back to the point...

Even though the physical hardware is in place the service doesn't show as available for my address yet. I subscribed to their notification system to get an alert when becomes available.

But Comcast extended my promo rate last week for another 12 months so I'll stick with them for the time being.

I'm assuming your neighborhood is off 196, are you north or south of 64?

Gigabit sounds good...But unless you are streaming a couple of 4k streams you really don't need it...

$90 bucks for internet is too much especially paying essentially another 80 for internet on all the cell phones on the plan.

I need it. The problem most people are going to have is their home infrastructure- usually wireless.

At first I thought $90 was too high. But then I realized the normal (i.e. non-promotional) charge for Comcast Blast 75 MPS is $79.99.

So, for $10 more you go from 75M to 1G.

That is a YUGE bang for the buck.
