That was awesome....color too!!! I really expected runs up the middle only. Ha Ha! Loved the hook and ladder plays and the single wing! Much more exciting on offense than I would have thought.

nice...I just posted an even earlier pic from a UC bowl game that has ya beat....

We didnt have a team in 43, 44 45,or 46.

Wow, goes to show you that even back then football is football and winning the turnover battle can secure a game.

Funny how shoulder pads were small, then grew for decades, an are now smaller again. :)

A quick note about one of the players. Ellis Jones, that one armed player in the film, actually has his jersey retired at TU. He was a standout in the 1942, 43 and 44 (regular seasons) and starred in the 1945 College All Star game versus the Chicago Bears where he made numerous outstanding plays on defense including 3 straight tackles for loss against them. A very courageous player!

Also, it was reported that Frank Broyles held a personal grudge against TU for many years because of that game and made the series with TU very difficult when he coached at Arkansas. Noone can prove this of course, but Arkansas became a place where TU got "hosed" many times on the strangest of calls by a referee crew that always seemed to be the same group year in and year out.

From 1925 to 1947 Arkansas played in Tulsa nearly every year. Usually losing. Then they decided that wasn't going to cut it and started trying to split the series for a couple of years - again losing in Tulsa.

After their 1952 loss they vowed to never again play in Tulsa, and they haven't.

Tulsa was a real powerhouse in the 40's.

To be fair, From 41 to 45 (maybe even a bit later) you had the war going on and guys, who might have played at state schools, overseas.

Yes, thats correct and may I add that a lot of those football hero's became military hero's as well. Some of them actually played FB while in the service as a part time activity sharing the load with their other war duties. An example is TU great Glenn Dobbs who enlisted in the army air corps and also played football for the Randolph Field Football team in his spare time. He and a lot of others had their FB careers cut short due to WWII and especially their pro careers whom many later attempted to restart. But events proved that the greatest generation was more concerned with protecting our nation than protecting their fb legacy when all is said and done.
