RE: B12 Expansion "Quads" Idea by KState Blogger - Includes Memphis & Cincy
If you go pod, you'll have to abandon it if/when you go 14, then reinstate it if/when you go 16, no? And that seems to be, for lack of a better word, a pain.

The Big Ten divisions are East and West.
Its the ACC I was thinking of. The BIG popped in my head because they created the terrible names for their divisions. Not sure if they still use them.
It's East/West now. What were the original names? Like Legends and Leaders or something crazy like that?

UpperTiger, I hear you but I disagree. Geography is maybe the main reason Memphis is in the running for B12 expansion....
Tigx, I'd said Big Ten, but ACC is the example of splitting up divisions based on not using geography. While the ACC isn't going to go out and add BYU in their next realignment, they still don't use geography to determine divisions.
Yes, our geography helps bridge the gap to WVA. But that bridge to WVA can be made whether we are in the same division at WVA, or if we were the cross divisional rival with WVA. As long as WVA plays 2 games per year against Cincinnati and us, it doesn't matter who is in who's division.
In all likelihood, it would make sense to have Cincy/WVA in the same division, and us in the other division, as we are closer to the rest of the Big12. Texas and Oklahoma would split up, and even out the divisions from there.

You're right, it's like Miami and Florida State being in opposite divisions in the ACC.
Isn't it great to have these discussions, without having to feel crazy for discussing it?

Yep...
"The Big Ten will replace Legends and Leaders with East and West when Maryland and Rutgers join the league in 2014, league sources told ESPN."

If we join the Big 12, maybe they can have Pork and Beef divisions.
Texas has a lot of cows. Memphis, KU, and KSU are in areas known for BBQ.

You are correct, it was Legends and Leaders. I always referred to the divisions as Pompous and Ass
