I haven't seen that push in awhile...but the University owns significant land around the campus that it leases. It COULD work, but I think there are bigger fish to fry.

The study that was paid for partially by hard earned money donated by fellow posters (and which was never to be seriously considered) proposed multiple potential sites.

On campus.

Seriously, could it go behind the library? If you could take down some of those dorms off of DeSoto to make space (Robison & Smith?) you would have the space all the way from behind the engineering buildings to the field house.

No idea if that's feasible, but since this is an internet message board it doesn't have to be.

Were't there talks of buying out the neighborhood just south east of campus and putting it there?

I tried to the search feature and was unable to find it. Would like to see the sites again. Do you possibly have a link?

Here are some indisputable facts:

1- There is no push for an ocs from any responsible party at this time.

2- There are two or three spots on campus that would work ( as of a few years ago)

3- The South Campus is NOT an on campus atmosphere.

4- When the Liberty Bowl needs to be replaced, we will push for ( and build) an OCS

5- an ocs would not generate more profit than the Liberty Bowl with our current lease

6- an OCS would generate more long term prestige and pride for the University of Memphis.

The old masonic lodge is now the Crews Center for Entrepreneurship...placing the stadium there went bye-bye with the new master plan.

IF (big if) it were ever to happen, at this point I feel like South Campus would be where they would place it. That's not my personal choice (it negates most of the reasons to have one on-campus, IMO), but I think that's the most likely scenario.

That said, it ain't happening any time in the next 15-20 years.

RE: The people who push for an OCS, where exactly would it go?
Whatever is done needs to be to P5 standards. Baylor's new stadium has a capacity of 45,100 and can be expanded to 55,500. The stadium contains 39 suites, 74 loge boxes, 1,200 outdoor club seats, 3,000 seats for the Baylor Line student group, and 6,700 total student seats. It costs 250 million to build.

Like I said, I can see the argument for an on-campus venue and I personally like the Liberty Bowl. The information above is just to give us something to compare with.

The South Campus is just as far from the dorms as the LB. The only difference would be that the players dress in their own locker rooms.

Good points, however my uneducated feeling is that #5 may be incorrect due to parking, concession revenue, naming rights and corporate suites that can be offered.

In addition, I would add point number 7 to include the increased donations to the university at large from the increased exposure to the main campus an on campus stadium would bring.

yep, you just KNOW with Memphis' luck that's where they would put it...

if that's our OCS option...just keep leasing the Liberty Bowl as long as you can.

The bottom line is the entire campus layout is faulty right from the RR track on down. Just a bad location.

RE: The people who push for an OCS, where exactly would it go?
I'm wondering if a Carrier Dome type situation, where the dome could be used for both football and basketball, would work and actually provide a nice profit.

Memphis has been among the national leaders in basketball attendance for years but football has always struggled with football. To me that means a larger than average basketball facility but not a huge football stadium, much like the carrier dome. I could see Memphis putting 30,000 people into a basketball facility. Also would give Memphis control over basketball and reduce the need for space.

I think it could work if it were done right.

it was never supposed to have 21k students...it was just supposed to be a teachers college, by the RR tracks.
