Keep in mind Texas in charge: they would rather bring in UConn (academic peer, state flagship) and Cincy (good all-around sports) than Houston (which could compete even more in recruiting). The last thing Texas wants to be is third or fourth best team in the state.

UConn isn't a factor from what I heard. It is 1. Houston 2. Cincy 3. Memphis.
1 and 2 get the nod because of academics and tv market.

I don't know: Dana Holgorsen was asked about expansion, and he said he was for it, and the first two schools he mentioned were UConn and Cincy (I'm not sure he even mentioned Houston).

Dana is also notoriously a misinformed idiot with a drinking problem that constantly has foot in mouth moments so take it all as you will

Problem for any expansion is espn/fox/etc is losing subscribers. They will not being ready to pay out $40 more million per year. Espn just lost $200 million of espn revenue alone this year. I honestly think we totally maxed out conference payouts. Then conference channels are screwed if they go a la carte programming too.

It really depends on what they want. I'd say there are numerous strong candidates in the AAC and it will certainly be 2 of us if they do expand (they'll go east, not the MWC)

I think #11 is Cincy, pretty much unanimously. Then I'd figure they'd go with a Florida school (recruiting), simple new market local (Memphis), or Houston (Texas wants the state on double down mode).

It's not a slight not to mention UConn (worthy, but too far away) or any other program. All of the AAC programs offer some unique strengths and most teams would be P5 worthy except for some disqualifying issue such as distance (UConn), state already has B12 presence (Tulsa, Houston), or the team in question is on a down swing with potential improvement (Tulane).

We have a good conference. I will be happy for the 2 promoted, but feel bad for the 10 strong left behind if this happens.

I, of course, hope it is Memphis, but I will not be crapping on conference mates I respect to diss them. We have some very good programs and almost all would be P5 worthy.

But there are just two spots likely. C'est la vie.

If Houston and Cincinatti are the two teams, I feel the conference will back-fill with Rice and Marshall.

Yawn, what happened to UCF? Weren't they on the Big 12's short list 16 months ago and as recently as 4 months ago?

I'll believe it when I see it.

UCONN hasn't been mentioned at all in what I'm hearing. Doesn't make sense. We have PROOF that the expansion committee presidents have visited the University of Houston and they came to us!

BYU losing their coach tells me that BYU, who has begged for inclusion to the B12, might realize they aren't getting the invite. If he believed BYU was close why would he, a devout Mormon, jump ship to a part of the country where he has no recruiting pipeline?

It really does look like the Big 12 has honed in on Houston and Cincinnati.

I'm a little surprised by this amendment, because I thought the B1G would want to scrap divisions to keep more historic rivalries intact.
