Are BYU & Army your top two teams to back-fill with if the BIG XII expands by two teams to get to twelve by inviting two of either Houston, Cincy or Memphis? Or is it Air Force & Colorado State?

IMO the instability in the AAC is much, much greater than the MWC due to external forces (just as it has been in the past for the MWC). Having your best teams poached is THE worst thing that can happen to a conference as history has shown (the old MWC and old BIG EAST).

Perhaps there may be an opportunity to form a new conference after the next round of expansion occurs. However, IMO, no team from the MWC will join the AAC knowing that in all likelihood at least two of your best teams will be poached in the not too distant future. Particularly if there is not a Western division and doesn't include all sports. Unless the money is such that it is worth the risk.

This is where I disagree. I think Air Force and CSU are different. Travel wise, its about the same for them being in the MWC and in the AAC but in the AAC they get much better exposure. Our TV contract is WAY better in terms of exposure, along with the fact that their games would be on Eastern time slots, which have higher visability. Add in that they could recruit Florida and Texas better and its a winning formula.

They also know that if down the road the AAC were to lose two teams, that they are the bridge to the MWC.

Lets say Air Force and CSU join next year. Then a year later we lose (just an example) Cinci and Memphis. Well, is the MWC more desirable to go back to? I dont think so.... and we all know the AAC would want to expand so they will target MWC schools and the effect would do nothing to those two schools.

Theres really no downside for those two to join. SDSU is in a predicament since we are SOOO far away.... but once a few bridge schools are added, then it helps.
A western division that includes SDSU, UNLV, CSU, Air Force, Tulsa, SMU, Houston and Tulane isnt really that different in terms of travel then what SDSU is already doing.

Long term, A move for CSU and Air Force is the right one for the AAC, whether we stay in our present configuration or even if we lose two.

I really don't know what Air Force & Colorado State would do. They are part of the "Front Range" clan (Including Wyoming) and have always tended to stick together. Wyoming is terrible.

I would be fine with a true all-sport western division that would include...

SDSU
UNLV
CSU
Air Force

and possibly Boise State or Fresno State

I am not really excited about Tulsa or Tulane (although the Green Wave definitely have potential) and wasn't thrilled when they were added when we were still planning on joining the AAC.

No offense to Tulsa and Tulane but I wasnt a fan of the idea. When we offered Boise and SDSU, I really liked the idea of a nationwide conference. Its unique and bold.... but then I found out that it was football only and I was a bit pissed. SDSU basktball is something special and would have been cool to have.

My hope when the AAC got to 10 teams was to add SDSU, UNLV, Fresno, Boise, CSU and Air Force. Thats a 16 team conference that would be coast to coast and solid across the board. Good football with solid Basktball too.

Instead, we gave up going out west and ended up where we were at. Not ideal but I like the AAC.... not saying id turn down the Big 12 if they came calling, but this isnt the worst thing ever.

Agreed & SDSU football has been very good for the past 6 years (6 straight bowls and 2 conference championships over that time). SDSU football is about to take a step to the next level in the next couple of years. Hopefully, the Chargers BOLT for LA ASAP; it would help.

Outside of P5 invite, which isn't likely....I think most SDSU fans would welcome a west division of the AAC invite. It would be a defacto best of the rest conference, which would truly be coast to coast. The conference would be on TV all day give TV partners a lot of programming. The football champ would most likely get the G5/NY6 bowl bid and it would be a great hoops conference.

Unfortunately, I don't see this happening unless the B12 comes and raids the AAC.

Hope you guys eventually come aboard. SDSU wanted to join even after Boise b*tched out. Quality athletic program with much to offer.
