And worse, the access bowl has to compete against the playoff match ups. They're both on new year's eve this year

The rankings are trash.
Ole Miss and Memphis are both 9-3. Memphis drubbed Ole Miss. Ole Miss is rated. Memphis isn't. Oh, and Ole Miss has "bad" losses and Memphis doesn't.

Guys they don't want a G5 in the playoff. The playoff was set up for the big names (Ohio St, USC, Texas, Bama, etc.). They don't even want a Purdue or Wazzou in the playoff. It's a sham. The NY6 bowl for the top G5 was their concession to keep us quiet and not get too rowdy (law suites). UH could have beaten UCONN by 40 and they wouldn't be ranked any better than 10ish. Even if they were 6 or 7 they are still not in the playoff. It just isn't going to happen for the AAC or any other G5 (or P5 dregs unless they win their P5 conference...which is very unlikely most years).
Here's the deal...
In basketball (March Madness) everyone LOVEs the underdog and the ratings go up when a George Mason makes a run because its 'cool'.
In football they don't want the George Masons (UH, Memphis, Temple, Boise). They want Ohio St vs Alabama.
Back in the BCS BOwl days the P5's that had to play a Boise, Utah, TCU, Ball St (then G5's that made a BCS Bowl) where furious and considered it crap ending to the year. TV doesn't make as much money because in football nobody wants to see upstart Ball St vs Alabama....they want to see Notre Dame Alabama.
Why the difference in basketball vs football I don't know.

I hate to say it, but that's why all this "G4" nonsense is, well, nonsense. The P5 will make sure we never get a fair share and laugh at us cannibalizing each other while the fat cats get fatter.

Exactly, an 8 team playoff will be 5 P5 champs and 3 at large.

Memphis could have been in playoff discussion if it had run the table as they were already top 14 with the nation's 3rd longest winning streak, prior to the wheels falling off and losing 3 games...
