RE: Coaching Carousel
The other thing is that even MAC schools fire coaches for mediocrity so its not like any coach has security even at lower salaries (not that I wouldn't love a $500k salary). You must produce in a world/industry where half the teams lose each game and that breeds a lot of turnover. Few if any MAC ADs will accept inevitable strings of years with losing records.

I don't think the choice is between long term at 500k vs going for the bigger bucks. They all know the lifespan of their productive career with respect to money is short lived thus they feel forced to take the bigger money while they can. I would not be surprised if more coaches would stay for a long period if they really thought it was a viable option. As we have all seen, contracts are virtually meaningless with regard to retention.

RE: Coaching Carousel
Let's be real. Did anyone really think because he coached for the Championship game that he was actually staying?

Then he went on press conference before the title game saying people were trying to use rumors to distract his team. Just because coaches can't be honest and say yes I'm considering another job. Everyone knows what is going on. All the while pretending to play innocent to the media.

Nobody thought that. All he said was he would not discuss till after the title game, and that was his and team's focus. Which was cooler than what a lot of coaches might do. He made no such statement about the bowl game.

Babers said he 'hadn't signed anything' when the UCF rumors came out, that's about as close as you can get to saying one foot is out the door. At least he had the class to say no to them before the MACC even if meant losing the job. And he's better off for that, he's got a P5 gig now.

Babers showed MUCH more class than Campbell. Good luck to him.

I saw nothing from Babers that was duplicitous- when asked if he would entertain offers after the MACC he said he would. Handled it very well IMO.

Well, we know he'll have sympathetic refs.

The guy that took the UCF job turned down the Syracuse job.

So, 'better off' seems to be relative in this case.

Touche. All other things being equal (I don't know how much they'll be paid), me and most people would probably take living in Orlando over upstate NY. But at least Babers gets to have that magical P5 distinction at SU and doesn't have to take over a winless program.

I liked how Babers handled that. He seemed to a class act. UCF ppl didn't want to wait and Frost was our 1st choice or so UCF Adm is telling fan base.
