This post got me wondering how many of the current schools in CUSA have spent time ranked in the Top 25. I'm pretty sure that all of the following have:
1) USM (last appeared in 2011)
2) Marshall (last appeared in 2014)
3) UTEP (last appeared in ?)
4) RICE (last appeared in ?)
5) La Tech (last appeared in 2012)
6) UNT (last appeared in?)
7) WKU (last appeared in 2015)

I'm not sure of when some were last ranked, but that's half of the conference that has been at some time. We've definitely got a lot that we can build on going forward.

Win your bowl game and you'll climb. Lose it to Temple and you're out. As simple as that.

Southern Miss has been ranked in final polls 4 seasons.

Southern Miss has been ranked at least once during a season numerous other times.

Southern Miss also has two national championships. Both were in the Small College Division in 1958 and 1962.

Finishing is what matters. Lost that game and you are no longer a top 25 program.

UAB has been ranked in the top 25 but never finished there. In 2004 UAB won 5 of it's first 6 games with wins over Memphis, Cincy, Miss. State, TCU, and Baylor. We were ranked #24.

Then we went 2-4 in our final 6 games .

CUSA needs at least one team to FINISH in the top 25 every year. We keep doing that and we will be fine as a conference.
