Kent State @ NJIT
The Golden Flashes travel to Newark on Monday to take on the Islanders. NJIT earned a spot on the radar of many basketball fans by beating Michigan a year ago today.

The Islanders are 5-3 with wins over Boston University and South Florida. NJIT is 4-0 at home. Four Islanders are scoring in double digits including leading scorer Damon Lynn. The 5'11 junior point guard has 27 assists to 15 turnovers. The Islanders starting 5 includes three players with 20 or more assists. The second leading scorer and leading rebounders is 6'5 junior Tim Coleman who averages 12.9 points and 6.6 boards per game. Colemen is a graduate of Saint Anthony's High School in New Jersey.

The rest of the starting five includes 6'4 senior Ky Howard, 6'0 guard Willis Winfield and 6'6 post Terrence Smith. The Flashes should pound the ball into the paint whenever possible.

The first man off the bench is 6'3 junior Rob Ukawuba. I repeat...the Flashes should pound the ball into the paint whenever possible.

I'll take the Flashes in a hard-fought win similar to yesterday

Kent State 70
NJIT 61
Four Golden Flashes reach double figures

Here is the link to the preview of tonight's game = http://www.kentstatesports.com/news/2015...52024.aspx

Here are the game notes for tonight's game = http://www.kentstatesports.com/documents...eNotes.pdf

Hopefully Kent State can travel to the Garden State and get the road win. KSU is 4-2 headed into tonight's game vs NJIT. Then they host University of Louisiana Monroe & Canisius College and then head to Las Vegas NV to play SMU and TBD.

It looks like KSU will be 9-4 in non-conference play, possibly 10-3. What does everyone else think?

I am afraid that NJIT will not be as easy as some will think. I did see the CSU game and overall it was ugly to watch due to two good defensive coaches going against each other. Our shooting is of concern. It looks like Hall and Spicer have something developing. I can not remember when we had a good inside passing game. It will be the key to our success this season.

Teams are going to zone us to death, until we can make some outside shots

Nice to have Kellon Thomas back! A true point guard is a luxury.

Great game. Thomas, hall and Pollard were terrific. Ortiz, too, off the bench.

Mixed emotions about this one. On one had, NJIT managed to force us to play the way they wanted. 30 three point attempts is way too many for this team. On the other hand, we played their game and beat them at it. This game could help force teams to respect our outside shooting a little which will open up more space for Hall. Couldn't be more impressed with Hall's passing in the last couple games. Loved seeing Thomas put the team on his back late.

Good game from Walker as well. True freshman, getting a lot of playing time, and he's in the first class that will play all 4 years with a 30 second shot clock (assuming it isn't changed again). He's going to score a lot of points in his career.

Very disappointed with the game from Spicer though.

Currently Jimmy Hall is leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. He's kind of good.

How often does a power forward lead in assists? Amazing.

When the offense is designed to flow through him and he is doubled on every possession. To his credit, it takes very good vision and awareness to get the ball out to the right player.

Agree on Walker 100%. As he learns to play under control/within the sets he has the potential to be an offensive weapon. He seems to be quite active on defense (I seem to remember a few steals and breakaways last night).

It was also great to listen to the game and hear frequent score and time updates. Nice all last night and a KSU K-O is always good!

I also would like to compliment the game announcers. They transmitted the excitement of the game very well. I had to stand a walk around while listening to the closing minutes. Best broadcast of a KSU game in a long, long while. Thanks for the job you do.

Hopefully, Thomas and Pollard (and maybe Walker) can be those guys.

RE: Kent State @ NJIT
KSU jumped about 40 spots to 62nd in the RPI rankings. That's what happens when you beat a good team on the road. (RPI is based on a team's record, opponents' record, and opponents' opponents' record. There's a bonus for winning on the road and a penalty for losing at home.)

62nd is best in the MAC. Eastern Michigan is 80, Toledo 104, Buffalo 110.

KSU strength of schedule is 142 (out of about 350). Buffalo SOS is 32, Eastern 38.
