With usc Jr. gone now it seems no big vacancies are open anymore. Correct?

ECU, but the way they let go of Ruff isn't going to make that job very desirable right now. I think they will have to go after an assistant coach somewhere or a HC with some baggage.

ECU was Boise before Boise. They are a good job, but made a really bad decision to fire Ruff. They aren't P5, so that hurts their profile, but they are still solid.

ECU was never Boise. They have a few great seasons intermingled amongst a lot of mediocrity. If anything, Marshall was Boise before Boise.

Could be wrong but don't see Brohm going to ECU. It's a lateral move to a university that shows no loyalty to "good" coaches. Yes, they would give him more money but at what price. Western is going to have its coach for at least one more year. Betcha Western will do something like MT did with Stock!

Nope ECU was never Boise, but let's not make Ruff out to be Jeff Bower either. Jeff Bower had 14 straight winning seasons, won 4 conference titles, and finished 2 seasons in the top 20, 1 in the top 15. Ruff finished with a losing record in 3 of his 6 years at ECU and never even managed to win a division title. Sure ECU could certainly hire someone worse than him, but it's not setting an insane standard to expect someone better either.

I'm sorry to tell both of you..but as much as I respect both ECU and Marshall..they were never "like" Boise before Boise.

USM was the closest thing to Boise before Boise..and during Boise during Jeff Bower. The first ever game of USM v Boise, ESPN and all the networks were calling the game " The Battle of the Best Mid-Major Programs"! Boise ended up winning that game in blowout fashion, something like 38-7 if I remember correctly . That was the game where Boise's running back had to go the porta potty on the sidelines. I can't recall his name off the top of my head, but he was a hoss!

From 1997-2004 Marshall had an 80% win percentage, won 5 conference championships, had two Heisman finalists and one more in serious contention, and finished ranked 3 times including an undefeated season finishing #10. If thats not a Boise-esque run, its pretty close. Not to mention, Marshall's 1999 team, coupled with Tulane's really helped to get the gears in motion to expand the BCS to the mid-major leagues, allowing Utah and Boise to accomplish what they did.

We had this run:

11-4
12-3
11-4
12-2
12-3
15-0
10-3
12-1
13-0
8-5
11-2
11-2

That's not too bad. Five FCS title game appearances (2 championships) followed by 5 FBS championships, 5-1 Bowl record, 3 top 25 seasons, 2 heisman finalists in NY, another that finished sixth, 5 QBs to the NFL with 2 being first rounders. The most successful transition from FCS to FBS in history.

Boise has done it longer and better, mainly because they consistently were able to promote from within on their coaches so they had continuity. We went out and made a horrible coaching hire and killed what we had going.

The difference- Boise beat top 25 P5 teams, that's what got Boise recognized not going 11-2 with the worst SOS

The worst SOS thing is only a recent phenomenon in the last two years. We had the 21st strongest SOS in the nation as recently as 2011, beating a Big East co-champion that year. The records posted above is a time period which include a win over #6 Big 12 champion and otherwise undefeated 2003 Kansas State, a win over a ranked BYU conference champion, a win over bowl-bound Clemson, and the nation's longest bowl winning streak. Our OOC picks up next year with two ACC teams, and in the future, we start playing the "best of the G5" with series against Boise, App State, Cincinnati, Navy, ECU... and home and homes with Piss, NC State, Louisville, etc.

Most importantly, like Boise, Marshall painted their turf in the school colors.
