RE: Miss out again
So those are highly recruited? A couple three star guys and a total of four power 5 offers amongst them? I can show you the rivals and ESPN links and they are what I said. All of Smalls offers must be on 24/7.

These are good players but I think the only one you could say is highly recruited is Huff in that bunch.

Should we continue to recruit the Tommy Fielder's of the world? That's really working out well...

...we didn't. He is a walk on.

uh, the kid is a 5th string true freshman. if you remember (probably don't) Lynch the first couple of snaps looked just as bad. Same goes with Harnish and on down the line. Heck every time Haldi would throw I shaved three years off my life.

give him some time.

Yeah, I would say Fiedler did exactly what was expected of him...He was on the team for this very purpose. He is the ULTRA EMERGENCY QB. We don't burn a redshirt and he gets a chance to prove he is worth a scholarship.

How about the highly rated Charlie Miller, Deion Hallmon and David Senior? Guys we got here that had multiple offers and not one worked out.

I think he was more Kedzman and others hype rather than highly recruited recruit.

Our best players were under the radar... Turner, Wolfe, Lynch, Harnish, English. We just need to keep doing a great job of developing, evaluating, and getting the most out our players...

Im not upset about what star kid we miss out on im disappointed that they haven't tried to bring in 2 QB's every year. They (carey and staff) aren't very good at developing qb's (they didn't develop Lynch) and they have had a hard time keeping them.

At that position you have to bring in a couple almost every year. Novak will tell you one of the biggest mistakes he made was not getting a QB in 05 when a local kid named DanLeFevour wanted to come to NIU. It cost us big.

We have one right now and we might need about 3 at the rate these guys have worked.

jimmy garoppolo was another that wanted to come to NIU...all of FBS missed on him..only offers were FCS. Was rated 2 star by 247

RE: Miss out again
Garappolo and Lefevour wanted to come to NIU? Garoppolo would have been a nice get, but he wouldn't have played over Lynch, would he? Certainly not in the offense NIU ran.

Lefevour, if that happened, NIU would be on like 9 straight MACC appearances.

They've done a decent job of developing QBs, it's not like Hare is a scrub. World beater, no. He's more than adequate and he is better than he was as a Sophomore at throwing the ball downfield and doing what needs to be done.

Uh... Harnish threw for 320 yards his first game and he was starting as a freshman. JL was pretty much handcuffed his first start against Iowa. The coaches were overly conservative...

Remember Russ Michna of WIU who tore us up for 400 yards to beat us? He was recruited by us but wanted to go to a bigger school. When he came back to us we had moved on...

Harnish was not a true freshman who began the year as the 5th string.

NIU has a great track record of proving star rankings are irrelevant. Santa and Root are among the highest rated QB's we have recruited. Harnish and Lymch did pretty damn well without the rankings. I trust our staffs ability to evaluate talent.
