Is that a 'big problem'? I'm not sure that it is, except to the BTN crew (one of whom I believe is a former PSU player).

I didn't see his behavior in the bench area to be a problem...

I was at the game so I had to watch the game on tape delay.
His conduct off the court needs to improve as well or he can leave. Earl loved the students and showed always.

I talked to James after one game and he seemed very appreciative that I took the time to congratulate him on a great win for EMU and his personal performance.

He did nothing to the contrary to our students. He gave some looks to the opposing teams students as they were jeering him all game. What do you expect an 18 year old to do? Watch what his "role models" in the NBA do. I think he showed a lot of restraint for his age considering he was getting screwed by the refs.

Super, I asked you point blank, what did Thompson do? You did not answer you just keep repeating this vague statement of misconduct towards EMU students without stating your case. This conduct of yours is very accurately described by Bob as "slander".

RE: James Thompson and Basketball Recruiting
He did the same thing in 2011 regarding a running back for Eastern who was out injured and he "intimated" without any specifics, that he was "faking." He couches his comments to insinuate that he has some sort of inside information which we all know he doesn't. That crap has to stop, these are college kids.

All of you, at some point, you have to ignore restraint. It might be more restraint than what JT has to endure from opposing students :-)

It need not be a legal matter. But rather a matter of character and honor.

The great ones do.

The great ones don't get themselves into legal trouble by having charges of physical altercations with a woman levied at them.

You weren't there, you don't know what happened. I had a nutty girlfriend in high school who charged at me swinging a tennis racquet...I said nothing. Crazy, immature things happen in high school. Kids make mistakes, there is no pattern of this sort of stuff.

The bottom line. James Thompson IV doesn't need EMU, he wants EMU. We all should be thanking our lucky stars he is here. He is a once in a generation type talent. Enjoy it, you won't see anyone similar in a good 20-25 years.

Spreading unfounded rumors is not only cowardly and wrong, it is a disgrace, especially for an "older gentleman" who should know better and who masquerades around as some sort of super fan or some such self-congratulatory title.

I for one, intend to enjoy James Thompson's career here at EMU, however long it lasts. I respect greatness and I love his never quit attitude. I also think the supporting cast is strong enough to win the MAC this year and secure a long overdue NCAA bid.

Rant over. Let's enjoy the season.

RE: James Thompson and Basketball Recruiting
James Still's was way different. He was in college and he assaulted an unsuspecting student, unprovoked for the hell of it. Lee and Bryant's were different too.

Life is a series of case by case situations. Life isn't black and white, we are not comparing apples to apples here.

My advice, if you don't want to support the player, don't. No one's forcing you to. It's your life. As long as you don't spread false rumors about the young man, we won't have a problem.

**just quick clarification. She charged AT me with a tennis racquet, not that I was 'charged' or she was 'charged' with a crime, etc. That sentence was confusing. The point is she did a dumb thing, teenagers do lots of dumb things. We learn and move on and usually no one ends up getting hurt.**

RE: James Thompson and Basketball Recruiting
Bob , you are going a little overboard with the insults. And seems like you are combining Superfan and 79. Super is a slandering with coy little insinuations. 79 is just raising concerns about a player with legal matters in his past. I disagree with it but his is a very normal sentiment. That is why Thompson had his original schollie revoked and made him eligible for an EMU level program.

That said, I agree with you 100% on giving the TEENAGER a second chance. There are probably at least several regular students at EMU who are on similar second chances. But they can't contribute to the university like Thompson can so they go unnoticed and therefore unscrutinized. It is both ironic and unfair.

Lastly, I think your analogy of you ex does not fit this situation since I would imagine MOST people probably feel compelled to charge at you with blunt objects .
:-)
