RE: Why were Houston and Temple able
That they're having such success in the first year on the job shows what's possible for us heading into the future.

Luck of the draw.
Not only a miraculous coaching job at a program perceived to be a graveyard, but also developed a likely first round draft pick at QB. I remember when Fuente compared Lynch to Tom Brady and Memphis media laughed him out of the Liberty Bowl.
Pessimism is a disease that is rampant, even more so in Memphis than anywhere. You would think that negativity on such an extreme level would be more prominent in certain classes of people, however in Memphis, it ebs throughout. Pessimism festers, like a sore and transcends into a disease that those from outside sometimes realize & fear that they will be consumed by it......
Unfortunately,it's SOO incredibly difficult to get some ti transcend their emotions/ thoughts & words uttered from negative to positive. I struggled with this myself, then after being away from Memphis for half of my life, then returning only to find myself consumed in negativity. I transcended my actions/thoughts/behaviors & CHOSE to be positive. ...
WE CAN DO IT....but it's definitely NOT easy or simple for that matter....It makes you feel as though you're INSANE, but it is a world away from Pessimism

Much worse facilities? They play in an NFL stadium, and have a great on-campus practice facility that is actually on the main campus. I wouldn't say that Temple's facilities are "much worse" than ours.
Our Indoor facility in process of being handled. They are considering building a $100M on campus 35K seat stadium. If you can imagine what that gets you in the heart of Philly. Very Spartan. No funding yet.

RE: Why were Houston and Temple able
MONEY... Paying a coach 2.5 to 3 mil. a year is doable at Memphis but paying the assistants 3.8 mil. a year to share is staggering. VT wanted Fuente really bad, after all, they were paying Beamer 2.7 mil. a year.
Also, Beamer's past relationship with Fuente at Murray St. was a vote of confidence. He showed Fuente a great situation VT has with Virginia's rich recruiting grounds and job security as long as you win.

We've raised 3/4 of the $40M needed for our IPF and aren't being allowed to break ground on it until we raise the rest. Temple is building a $100M on-campus stadium - on campus stadium - for which they don't have funding yet...because they haven't started fundraising yet. I suppose there's no reason start fundraising when the project hasn't been approved by the city yet.
Again, I wouldn't say their facilities are "much worse" than ours.

Yep, we had shot before the coach took the VT job mid-season.
I am frustrated also knowing we had Houston beat and JF went Alabama conservative after big lead. Then Temple game kids were flat. Some if not all knew JF was leaving. Navy was baffling in margin of victory. Somewhat conservative that game also.
I think it was more due to the fumble, the interception and the missed field goal

I tend to agree. They've managed to win, but I just don't see a great football team when I watch them

Houston ruined our season 2 years in a row. We would have won the AAC outright last year and had a 10-2 mark in the regular season this year if we hadn't cooged it.

RE: Why were Houston and Temple able
I can't speak for Temple but if I would imagine if Rhule has another year like he did this year he's gone.
But as far as Houston goes, I'd argue they've learned from losing successful coaches like Briles and Sumlin and were determined not to let it happen again. The Houston job may be the single best G5 job in the country right now, and it's alot better than a number of P5 jobs.
Best recruiting in the country
Newest stadium in the country
Competition year in and year out is weak
They just showed they'll pay big time for a winner
Can accept going from 10 wins to 7 and still keep your job
Memphis will get there.

Congrats to UH, but schedule set up perfectly for them.
Home vs Cincy, Memphis and Navy.
Which resulted in hosting AAC championship.

True. We played at Temple two years in a row also. Damn Navy game still throws me. Understand Temple after disaster at Houston and staff considering job offers.
