If true the Orange came out better with him instead of Frost...the ACC has stepped it up on the coaching front:

From an outsider like myself...Babers or Brohm made the most sense...both run exciting offenses.

RE: Dino Babers to the Orange of Syracuse...
I am pleased with this hire. Six year deal, so I think Babers in committed to us as we should be with him. Comes in with head coaching experience already which is a plus and an excellent resume.

I also think SU has some excellent young talent that Babers can work with and potentially make this a quicker turnaround then someone with no head coaching experience. The Atlantic is a tough division though so I am not expecting an ACC championship at this point, just progress toward a 4-4 or 5-3 conference record.

Cheers,
Neil

I don't think that we're "home run" status yet, but we're close. All we need to do now is give the guy good assistants. I would KILL to to hire at least one elite recruiter and at least one coach with a lot of northeast experience. I'd also like to hire a good DC. If those 3 requirements are met, as long as we don't go out of our way to screw ourselves with the other hires, we will hit "home run" status.

Well then no hire is a home run hire.

That's not true. No hire is a home run hire if you go cheap on assistants. Good hires + good assistants = home run

Well this really is a premature comparison. We basically have no real data yet. Is he better than Frost? The only difference is Frost has no HC experience, Babers does...BUT: what does that even mean?

How many coaches were successful at one place, C&B at another. While some Co-ods become good HCs, some don't.

I hope this works for Cuse, but it's not like Ucf made a bad hire---they may have made the best hire of the entire Carousel this season..

And its quite possible that they made the worst hire of the entire carousel. That's why I was never excited about Frost in the first place. He has no head coaching experience. SU went the coordinator rout the last 4 hires. Two were fired, (Robinson, Shafer) and of the other two one was there about 12 years before he was fired, and the other left for the NFL after 3 years. Hiring someone with proven HC experience is always the safer bet. Hiring someone who has been very successful at two different stops, is even safer.

At least he had success at two different universities. Hoping he can maintain that pattern and replicate it at Syracuse.

Nice hire for SU. Amazingly, all of the coaching hires have been good ones.

Well, UCF was certainly trying to get him first. You cant blame them since the guy has won at every stop hes been at as a head coach and not just as and assistant.

Actually, I don't think so. What I read was Greg Schiano was our #1 but he ended up turning us down and Scott Frost was our #2.

I'm not taking anything away from Babers, though. He's a great coach who I think most any team would be happy to have. Which is a better hire? Nobody can say right now.

I'll just put it this way: Babers is the much safer hire. And what was all this media talk about Ucf hiring Babers?
