I've watched most of the game and except for a few big plays it has been an old fashioned B1G smash mouth battle (lots of running/short pass plays and defense). Iowa is better than many thought but Sparty had them shut down to two field goals save for a big pass play that went for a TD. Looks like they are about to take it in for the lead and possibly the game.

Thanks, good lord Gus Johnson is a freak of an announcer, every play sounds like the game winner in the super bowl.

I can't stand Johnson. Overhypes everything.

Ferentz should have let them score when they got the first down inside the 3 with about 2 minutes left.

Good call Billy, I was thinking the same thing. Although that has to be a gut wrenching decision.

So if you're in the Pac 12 are you p.o.'d that Oklahoma didn't have to play a 13th game that could have jeapordized their playoff spot?

Dantonio is the "Bill Belichick" of college football in terms of personality and how his teams play. More accurately, he's "Bill Belichick Light." At least Mark can smile once in awhile. Bill looks like he's suffers from "Groundhog Day Syndrome" and he keeps being told his Mom just died.

RE: Championship Saturday
funny that UNC and OSU got screwed by a blown call.

It couldn't happen to 2 more corrupt programs and deserving fan bases

Would love to see Iowa get the Rose Bowl invite over OSU

Geez. Uncanny resemblance.

[Image: 500x305-belichick20121101.jpg][Image: hqdefault.jpg]

In a parallel universe:
[Reporter] "Coach, how does it feel now that your team has made the playoffs?"
[Coach B/D] (Awkward silent death stare)
[Reporter] "Uh, coach? The Playoffs...."

He did it when he was here 8 years ago. Often, sheer force of personality will get it done.

Watch him during games interacting with players on the bench after they come off the field. They would run through a wall for him. Like a good gunny or chief in the USMC and USN. People effing get it done for them because it's not an option otherwise.

The guy is not an innovator, but he is one hell of a motivator and influence on that team.

Oh, I agree. I don't dislike or have any issue with Dantonio. I'm most impressed with his defensive acumen and his disciplined brand of football. No doubt the man can coach his players and he has a great thing going at Michigan State.

This is how BK is too. Very no nonsense and failure just isn't an option. In fact this is the quality of most good coaches. Motivation, inspiration, and they don't accept failure. I HATE Jimmy Johnson but I heard him speak at my work once and after his talk, I at least respected the heck out of him. He said something like, "I'm not much on X's and O's...that's what I have coordinators for. MY job is to motivate and influence this team to win." He said a lot of great things. Best speech I've ever heard. I still think he's an arse of a person but I respect him as a coach tremendously. He told a Troy Aikmen story that was amazing but I don't have the space here to re tell it. Great coach.

Also Alabama starts 3 freshman on punt return team that blocked a punt. There was a discussion earlier this year if UC should. It's a pretty wide-spread practice.

How come we can't watch hours of Frank Beamer special teams and just copy them? His teams have been known for superior special teams over the years. I mean, I know we have a high school kid running special teams or whatever, but can't the kid just dial up some beamer ball videos and go from there? Think kid!
