It should be Candle's priority to get a seasoned veteran OC. Someone that has the experience of at least four or five years. Don't think getting a friend in for that spot would be a very wise thing to do.

He is surrounding himself with a couple of guys that have quite a bit of experience in Hallett and Heacock.......and both have head coaching experience as well. That will be really valuable to a guy like Candle that is a head coach for the first time.

Looks like a good hire to me. I would rather hire a guy whom I absolutely knew I could get along with, as opposed to someone of unknown personality. This guy seems to have the right skill set and track record as well,. I guess the proofs in the pudding as they say. Bad news on Rasheed. Hope Johnson stays.

As opposed to who that he might have hired in his stead? I don't know if you've vested interest, missing the point or disagree with the point. He was hired because he was known and hired someone because he was known as so it goes and he's from a very narrow target of exposure. This shouldn't happen. It's a source of what causes, rightly so, every group that doesn't feel they get a chance, a reason to believe it will never end.

I'm not a big believer that "isms" are overwhelmingly the result of bigotry so much they are a result of loyalties. Either way, the effects are the same. Individuals who might should be getting chances to move up, don't, regardless their hard work and success and the effect is society suffers because the best are not seeing light of day.

This process should be different than what I'm reading on ESPN. It's not just UT. It's this unique situation of such high turn-over and over-night fills of multi-million dollar positions, making it glaringly obvious TO ME that this process should be different.

AD made a too quick decision and so did the new coach IMO. Mitigating the RISK of losing a few recruits (which we'll likely lose anyhow) was not worth the moral cost paid and to be paid for becoming a part of this incestuous process.

like he said

Buddy or not, how can hiring a current Head Coach, with a ton of experience, as the O-Line coach be a bad thing? Should Candle's main requirement be that he's never met anyone he hires?!?

Just like in life, hiring good people is all about relationships. Coach Candle needs people who are dependable, experienced, and, most importantly, trustworthy. He'd be crazy not to dip into whoever he has in his professional/personal network, and take the best of the group. These guys work together A LOT. I'd think it's imperative and highly beneficial they get along & can work together.

From everything I've read, Candle is already doing a good job stemming the tide. Most of the 2016 recruits have reaffirmed their commitment to UT, and good riddens to those that don't. I very much have a "with us or against us" mentality right now. Those that decide to stay are aces up with me.

Go Rockets

I don't see a problem with this hire. Especially if he is only coming in as a position coach.

He is a seasoned coach with a fairly strong track record.
He is another coach with head coaching experience help guide our young head coach.
He most likely believes in the "Mt Union" system that has made us successful the last few years.

Why hire a complete stranger for a position when you know a competent person that you have a connection with that fits well with your "Process"

I'm wondering with Rasheed gone, if Hallett will become the DL Coach.

If you noticed, he was out on the road recruiting for UT.

Also, Hallett was National Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Wait a minute: are you implying that this guy might have been hired because he knows what he's doing instead of because he's Candle's friend? That being a great player and turning a program around as a head coach should count for something? That our new head coach might be hiring skilled people so he can do well? Get a grip, Dude!

Well, he looks like a pretty qualified, mature guy. A little concerned about the "hiring your buddies" issue, but at least we aren't poaching Bowling Green. Yet.
