Old Big East vs New Big East
On the other site, someone said that the first 3 years of the New Big East is at least the Equal of the last 3 years of the Old Big East. Used Sagarin Ratings to defend this...

I looked at the average Ken Pom ratings from the last 6 years....
2016 .7449
2015 .7503
2014 .7184
----------------
2013 .7639
2012 .7659
2011 .8027

average KP rating from 1st 3 years- .7348
Average KP rating from last 3 years of OBE- .7837

Definitely 2014 hurts NBE and 2011 helps the OBE. So lets take out those 2 years...
2015-16 .7476
2012-13 .7649

That's a pretty big difference there....

Now though, lets look at top 20 teams
2015-16- 2 teams
2014-15 2 teams
2013-14 1 team
------------------------
2012-13 4 teams
2011-12 4 teams
2010-11 5 teams(plus #21)

so last 3 years have had 5 top 20 teams combined. last 3 years of the old big east had 13 top 20 teams combined. You say well that's because there were more teams...
5/30- 16.7%
13/47- 27.7%

people say well the OBE had more dregs
sub 100 teams
2015-16 2 teams
2014-15 3 teams
2013-14 2 teams
-------------------------
2012-13 5 teams
2011-12 4 teams
2010-11 2 teams

NBE 7/30- 23.3%
OBE 11/47- 23.4%

And that gets before the most obvious thing....
titles- OBE 2 NBE 0
final 4's- OBE 4 NBE 0
Elite 8's- OBE 6 NBE 0
sweet 16's- OBE 9 NBE 1
(now true, NBE can tie/take lead for sweet 16 and actually take the elite 8 lead this year- but that's not going to happen..)
I would really love to have some of what they were smoking there.

RE: Old Big East vs New Big East
Stever this is the type of post where you tend to alienate people. You have taken one outlandish statement by one poster, and tried to insinuate that everyone on the other board is of the same mindset. People on the other board obviously realize the current BE is not the equal of the BE in the final three years of pre realignment, in terms of on court success. In fact, no current league is the equal of that BE, and very possibly no one will ever reach those lofty heights again. Unless leagues expand to 20 plus teams, I doubt we will ever again see 11 bids and the national champion coming from one conference.

As you know, you can visit any board site, and find extreme opinions with people talking up their league. Why you obsess with a BE poster that does this, and never one from another conference, I don't understand. As someone who posts there at times, I resent the way you want to brandish everyone there as a bunch of loonies, foaming at the mouth, screaming Big East. Truth be told, there is probably more rational discussion of basketball matters there, than pretty much anywhere else.

I know you went to a lot of trouble gathering the information for your above post. But guess what? We all already realize that the BE you reference, was the best of all time, and one we'll be unable to measure up to again. No one ever will.

RE: Old Big East vs New Big East
I tried to post something very similar to this yesterday in response to him, and it never got approved. So what's up with that? When I said I'd love to have some of what they're smoking, I'm not meaning everyone on the board. I'm meaning that one guy.

Also, how many people disagreed with him? 1 person did. So I think there are maybe some people on that board that do agree with him.

And how many agreed with him? Zero. Just because people don't respond, or choose to take someone to task, doesn't mean they agree with them. I read plenty of things around here I don't agree with, but 99% of the time I ignore it.

Maybe, but to me it's insulting that a Creighton fan is talking like that. I would have thought that other OBE folks would have said SOMETHING, ANYTHING about it. And I'm not saying everyone agrees with him, but rather that some on that board may agree with him.

Come on, you're grasping at straws now saying people "may" agree with him. Until someone actually agrees with him, than no one has agreed with him.

I think that having schools committed to hoops at the level most of the C7, X, BU and CU are has created a solid platform on which to build. Keeping the name and MSG gives the conference ties to the history of the BE. The basketball has been fantastic. I believe tournament success will come. It is not the 16 team monster that at one time had 12 schools taking basketball seriously and was firmly planted in the basketball crazed northeast part of the country, but it is a very solid group that I believe will continue to improve over time. I like where things are trending.

RE: Old Big East vs New Big East
I think the big thing quite frankly- until the New Big East gets the tourney success, it's always going to be looked at as inferior to the old Big East. That's what the conference desperately needs more than anything.
