Jucker = 2 NC's / 3 FF's vs Huggs + Cronin = 0 NC's and 1 FF

Yep, Jucker set the standard. Just as Wooden did at UCLA.

With that said, and leaving Huggins out of the discussion altogether, did anyone feel Cronin would coach here for ten years and reach just just one Sweet 16? He's made substantial progress and five straight NCAA Tournaments is noteworthy. I'm generally supportive of him but I also believe UC fans have been exceedingly patient with the rebuild. To me, this season is the tipping point and that's why the Butler loss was so disappointing. Go beat X or Iowa State and they're right on course. Drop both those games and fans will be saying UC is good, but not great. Tourney team? Yes; maybe they win a game the first weekend, but don't expect more. This season I was believing UC would take care of business consistently, even against a very capable Butler team @ 5th/3rd.

Lots of basketball left and I'm hopeful. I'll be at games win or lose. But I think we're all hungry for more.

Good thing there wasn't forums back in Jucker's first year. He had tremendous talent left over from the previous year where we lost only one regular season game by 1 point and a second loss in the NC game. We lost 3 of first seven due to new style and of course the loss of Oscar . So I bet there was plenty of unrest early. Then we ran off 22 straight to win the National Championship. But George Smith has to be given much credit for setting the table with talent and Jucker for great coaching in molding that talent to his style.

Jucker is the Holy Spirit, then.

Yep. George Smith deserves much credit for putting all the pieces together. Still amazing they did not get a NC with Oscar. I believe Jucker was an assistant on some of those late Smith teams.

Neither Huggs not Cronin can hold Jucker's jock.

If tourney success is your standard (the 1 Sweet 16 in 10 years stat--as if that gives a true representation of it, but whatever), then how can the Butler loss be so disappointing? Cronin's won a lot of big regular season games here, but, still, only 1 Sweet 16, right?

I wish there were videos of those old teams to watch. George Wilson and Ron Bonham are probably the most underrated Bearcats ever

Ron Bonham was probably the best pure shooter the Bearcats have ever had. Oscar was the greatest all around player, but I think Bonham was a better shooter.

IMO any discussions about 10 years ago are a distraction and at this point really have no bearing on the current state.

THIS.

this narrative is such a non-starter at this point.
