NTR-Dan Mullen to Miami?
Not doing his coaches show tonight because he's in Miami, per supertalk radio Mississippi.

He's with Dak

@MikeBBonner
About an hour from the Conerly Award presentation. Dan Mullen will be in attendance. Dak Prescott is MSU's candidate https://t.co/Qk5K3cB5Xx

RE: NTR-Dan Mullen to Miami?
Mullen would never leave MSU for Miami. He might take the SC job but not Miami. SC will pay 2x what Miami would pay & both places have a similar difficulty as MSU in winning big.

RE: NTR-Dan Mullen to Miami?
A school would have to pay Dan Mullen $4.5M ...that's a lot of cheese. Plus his job security at State is incredible. They play 4 patsies, UK and South Carolina next year. That's 6 wins and a bowl win puts them at 7. If he gets 7-8 wins every year he will have a statue built... I get why he may be looking to get out - nothing more to accomplish at State - but I don't see him taking a pay cut for a job with higher expectations.

Plus I hear the Starkvegas McDonalds has a mean burger.

He's already interviewed. Of course he'd leave. He's got to beat out Richt and others.

Sure Mullen would leave just not for Miami.

I think it depends on what he's motivated by. If he wants to try to win a NC, Miami or SC would be about 12 magnitudes easier than MSU. Miami is rumored to be able to offer $4M a year now. And he may not want to tempt fate as a coach in the SEC west. Those schools are dumb-ass crazy. I think Miami would be happy if he wins the coastal division every few years or so.

Care to explain? I think if Miami made a competitive offer, he'd leave...but I don't think they're willing to pay $4M for Mullen. They can hire someone for $2M with a similar resume or $4M for Richt.

Spot on regarding the job security. 8 wins and beat Ole Miss every other year and he's golden.

Except he's not beating OM every other year now and prospects looking weak too.

RE: NTR-Dan Mullen to Miami?
If you are an alpha dog and you already are an established SEC coach, then you are probably the type that thinks (a) you can win the NC with the right resources and (b) job security is a secondary consideration at best. Personally, I don't want a coach who is in it for the 'job security' (see: Tommy West during the latter part of his tenure). Given how much $ Mullen has already made, I would think he SHOULD want the Miami job. Miami DOES and CAN win National Championships. Moo U can only manage an SEC title game every 25 years or so (and that was with some serious shenigans with Jackie Sherrill). Mullen is a Yankee and I can't imagine him wanting to stay in Starkville versus Miami.

I don't think he would go there, but I don't see how Miami has difficulty in winning big. Get the right coach in there and they can be awesome.

Mullens wants out of MS State. He doesn't have a great class coming in. Getting beat by Freeze for everyone in state. He has had a good run. Time to move on.

Because they haven't won big in 10+ years and haven't been very competitive in recent years, they have very little student support, their stadium is 40 mins away & they won't pay a coach.

Florida Sun-Sentinel's Dave Hyde says Miami talked with Richt today. He also notes that Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and former Hurricanes Butch Jones are in the running for the vacancy.
