I think most college football players know that it is always a possibility that "their" coach may leave, for one reason or another, during their 4-5 years at the school. I think most UT players knew this was a very likely event for Campbell, in particular, given the media attention he had received most of the season. But, I do hope that they start to see "how" he did this, and what it has done to them:

The team lost an opportunity to win the West and go to the MACC game (no way Western should have beat us at home--we played one of the most incomplete games of our season, for whatever combination of reasons).

The team is in serious flux as we try to prepare for a bowl game--a chance for a 10-win season and at least a chance to break back into the top 25 in the final poll with a bowl win.

Is this the right kind of sendoff for the seniors?

And, for those returning players, he & their former assistant coaches are cleaning the cupboard of next season's recruits--their potential teammates.

Yes, these things happen. But there's a difference between celebrating the guy's success and making a stand for the PROGRAM. I really hope the leadership among the players gets everybody focused on playing football one last time this season for the midnight blue & gold, and not as the de facto "Iowa State University Junior Varsity/Minor League" team. This team deserves a bowl game. This team deserves a chance at 10 wins. This team deserves a coaching staff that wants to lead them to victory.

Once a Rocket, Always a Rocket--for some people, it really does mean that.

Well said.
