His salary is $1.5M apparently...Cuse would probably offer in the low $2M....he might not want the risk...however, if he has a senior laden team maybe he strikes while the iron is hot. I think Cuse is zeroing in Bowling Green's HC. (Babers)

I think Babers is the target right now. He has proven himself at two schools and seems to be a good man as well as a good coach. I would be happy with him as the next HC.

I originally wanted Lincoln Riley, OC at OU. He is young, has a crazy good offense and recruits Texas very well.

There are many others I would be content with and several that I would have to hold my nose on game day if they got the job.

We gave him a raise to $1.5M in good faith after going 6-6 last year. We're tearing that up and giving him a new contract now. He's not going to move his family, including newborn to Syracuse for the same money. If he wasn't interested in Mizzou, he's not leaving for Syracuse.

We have plenty of millionaire and a few billionaire donors. Our former athletics chairman (may he RIP) owned the Nets and Devils, and was worth hundreds of millions of dollars. His son is on our BOT, and our athletics board.

Right now all signs seem to be pointing towards Babers.

Have to say I am pretty excited if it turns out to be true.

When does the sweater vest become hireable? I think Jim Tressel would be a great fit at Syracuse.

Syracuse can't go wrong with Babers or Brohm. Both play exciting offensive football that would be something to see indoors. "The Greatest Show on Turf" Reloaded

The ACC has improved this week with Fuente, Richt and Mendenhall coming aboard. With Syracuse new hire it can only get better.

Personally I want to see Jeff stay at WKU, it's good for football in the state and it keeps him in reserve for us if we need him.

I'm afraid he might jump to a program of the tradition of Syracuse and never leave ala Denny leaving UCLA and staying at Louisville after The Bruins called looking for Wooden's replacement. I didn't have to worry about that at South Carolina or Illinois. Neither of those programs has the tradition of Syracuse.

What are the penalties for hiring him before his show cause ends?

Sounds like they could be whatever the NCAA wants. With Cuse current NCAA trouble & with Tressel being in his early 60's, it maybe wise to take a pass.

http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_...im-tressel

While the show-cause doesn't specifically prevent a team from hiring a coach, it does effectively serve as a ban in practice. Any school that employs Tressel must go before the NCAA infractions committee as to why it should be allowed to do so, and it could face its own sanctions as a result. The school also would have to issue a report to the committee every two months during the show-cause period detailing how it is monitoring the coach. Any additional violations committed by the coach during that time could really bring the NCAA hammer down on that school. And suffice it to say that most athletic programs don't want to spend any more time than absolutely necessary talking to the infractions people.
