If he would just own the mistake of a year ago it would go a long way toward rehabbing his image. Apparently it's just something he can't do which makes him an ineffective and dangerous leader. I truly hope this kind of arrogance does't go with him to clinical practice
Yes, very much true.
One cannot look at Watts & have any trust in him.
Doesn't matter if he does everything perfectly from here on out.
Trust has been lost.
Trust that will never & can never be earned again.
Four No Confidence votes. Resignation demands from the senior vice presidents. A failed capital campaign. A precipitous drop in research rankings. At least $11 million wasted on the football fiasco. UAB made an international laughingstock.
That is a record of unmitigated failure, and no urine-soaked cherry grove can change that. Ray Watts is unfit to lead, Ray Watts is unfit to manage, Ray Watts is unfit to set foot on the sacred soil of my university.

Trust is like virginity. Once broken, it can never be repaired.

Now that it has come back, I don't believe he wants to look like a dummy again supporting something that won't succeed. I believe he wants football to be successful (this time around).
So he can take credit for the new renaissance in UAB Athletics he started.
Oh no doubt. His desire for football's success is most assuredly for pride and self-preservation.
Is there "hedging" in these parsed words? Honest question.
His statement has a distinct tone that says. ".hey I am behind you because you promised to raise money. If you don't raise the money, ...
"eagerly anticipating surpassing our next benchmark of $4.5 million by January 2016"
What if fund raising falls short?
Based on these gifts and pledges of support, we have extended head football coach Bill Clarkâs contract
What if the fund raising falls short?
As the necessary funding continues to grow, so does our confidence and excitement about building a football team that will not only take the field in 2017 but also come out blazing with competitiveness.
What if the fund raising falls short?

I was there that afternoon when he made the announcement to the team. Yes, it was despicable. It was also sad to see a thousand cry, including me.
I will say this much...Discontinuing UAB Football was, by far, the boldest decision that any UAB President has ever made in regards to UAB Athletics. It has turned out to be a "HUGE" gain in favor of UAB Footballs immediate future. Finally, plans for campus facilities for UAB Football. Finally, plans for Uptown Stadium, future home stadium of UAB Football. With that said, recruiting has already skyrocketed to top 50 in the nation, and is rising.
All because President boldly stood up and derailed football and then, once again, boldly stood up and allowed football to be restructured and didn't get fired for it. Come to think of it, there is a distinct possibility that he has been on UAB Footballs side all along. Trust me, it wouldn't have happened without him, and never did. It is happening, now, that's for sure.
I along with thousands beg to differ with you.I suggest you keep believing your idiotic thoughts and we know the truth.I also hope you are not on my side of any stadium or gym.I bleed green and you seem to bleed ignorant.
UAB football is excelling in spite of Ray Watts not because of Ray. Saying that, why not forgive him? Surely we need forgiving of some stupid mistakes we've made as well.

I'll forgive him when he's gone. The damage has been done, he cannot lead this university.
So is there anymore about him resigning at the end of the year?
Regarding the Fire Ray Watts cheer, it was started a few times in Niceville. I was sitting across from the main body of UAB fans. At one point, the FRW cheer went up, but it sounded like it was drowned out by chants of UAB. I wasn't listening closely. Is that what happened? If so, that's interesting

Yea! I'll sit in one of the empty seats next to Ray!

In all seriousness, what damage has been done besides two missed seasons? Realistically, does anyone believe UAB would be getting new facilities right now? Or the opportunity to play in a new stadium? Add to that, if UAB had played this season and had a successful season, Clark would probably be taking another coaching job right now.
UAB is in a far better position to succeed now and I know that wasn't the intent of Watts and the BOT. Watts did UAB Athletics a favor in the long run.
