Yeah I saw that article lol. We stayed at the Westin last year and it was very nice. This year we wanted to be able to gamble more.

Oh thanks for the review! Is the walk from the Westin to the stadium well lit and ok? I hate to sound like some old granny but I am a country person at heart haha.

Last year it was great actually. There was a lit up ice rink downtown and there were several people out after the game. We didn't feel like it was dangerous at all. You're close to Lafayette coney island too if you like cheap late night eats!

Interesting fact that I learned about the Westin last year was that Yankee great Lou Gehrig collapsed on the grand staircase just off the lobby. He was later diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. More likely it was amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Unless, of course, he somehow contracted a disease that had his own name attached to it. That would be some amazing irony!

He really should have seen it coming.

RE: Motorcity Casino Hotel
also, the Westin is fantastic. While you're there, get an awesome dinner at Roast (Michael Symons restaurant) or a couple coneys at Lafayette. Also, the tree is up in campus martius a couple blocks away, and there are a few pop up retail shops down woodward. Not the most direct route, but i'd walk to campus martius, check out a few things there and then take woodward to adams to get to the stadium.

Woodward at night is very well lit.

Stayed at the Marriott 3 years ago and had to switch rooms a couple times until we found one that was clean. Housekeeping didn't exactly impress me there. We've decided to stay elsewhere since. It was probably just a fluke but I don't mind checking out other places anyways.

Way to be condescending!

We're staying at the Westin, I wouldn't worry about street toughs unless your wandering alone on your phone with headphones on...

Many of us sticking together at the team hotel. We have loved it every time we have been there. Plus many of us in the bar & lobby after the game...

I've been going to events in downtown Detroit my whole life of nearly 50 years. Never once had an issue. There's always tons of people milling about as well as lots of police. Wings, Tigers, Lions, Concerts, MAC Basketball at Cobo, etc.

As long as you're not hauling millions of dollars, you're likely as safe as any other place you could walk at night. 03-wink
