Assistant coaches already leaving for Iowa state
Am told Toledo assistants Jason Candle (OC) and Tom Manning (OL) are following Matt Campbell to Iowa State.

The dead period starts Dec. 14, goes to Jan. 13. Toledo's coaches are supposed to stay to Dec. 22-23, but half are going to ISU.

If Toledo's recruits start to jump ship -- and some will -- there will be no one to convince them otherwise (or look elsewhere) for 6 weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if Matt Campbell makes a play on DL coach Eli Rasheed. Coached Toledo's best position group.

Yeah...we know this was happening. Probably why Candle wasn't named interim coach.

I hope Matt Campbell goes 0-12 next year if he starts (and we know he already is) to poach Toledo commits and/or current players. If he is the "stand-up" guy others think he is, than he can prove it by recruiting his own roster of ISU recruits. We'll see if he remains such a beloved figure as the week's progress.

Matt Campbell loves him some Matt Campbell. He's going to raid the cupboard. He doesn't really care about Toledo deep down. He'll poach our current recruits and try to convince some current players to transfer.

Of course they are gone. Iowa State just hired their new head coach and he is moving at warp speed to put together a staff and build a recruiting class. Campbell is a high energy guy which should come as no surprise---it is the same way it went down at Toledo when Beckman left and Campbell was immediately hired here----we barely skipped a beat. What happens over the next 2 months will have an impact on the program at least over the next several years so it is important to move quickly.

OBrien has indicated that he wants a national search. Campbell had the program in good shape but things can change quickly in a turbulent environment when there is a leadership vacuum----hopefully Heacock can hold it together and we can hang on without too much damage until a new head coach is hired----but the sooner the better.

May be too much to hope for, but I'd love to see a new coach before the bowl game. Would require a pretty short list that O'Brien moves thru quickly. I'd be surprised if he didn't have said short list already. Question is does anyone have Toledo on THEIR dance card.

We've heard that there are rumblings about Heacock. Does anyone know if he's more of an "old school" disciplinarian. Must not be a "player's coach" like I suspect Campbell and Candle were perceived to be by the players. Seems like he made more progress with our long-suffering defense than Candle did with the offense.

Just read a Blade article where Heacock states he isn't a "player's coach" so I guess that answers my question.

Do not want Heacock for a HC. This situation could be MOB's undoing if not
handled quickly and successfully. I'd almost rather see the end of Toledo FB than to have the program torn apart, like I think will happen unlees there is quick correct action.

Agree, I think "by January 1st" is way too slow.

If OB pulls what the ISU AD did, showing up on big game day, I'd be disappointed in him, unless he actually was able to convince Ferentz to come here. Seems fair. We give Iowa one. They give Toledo one.

He can't be expected to never recruit OH and Pennsylvania.
Ohio is his roots.

As far as current players going, that doesn't seem to be a major issue in college football.

Let's relax a bit. It's been a little more than a day. A bunch of teams have HC openings right now. I can't fully remember the timeline for UTs last two hires, but I think they took at least a week. UT Football is a GREAT job, that many coaches will be eager to take. I have faith MOB will make the right moves. This isn't his first rodeo.

Campbell has been a candidate for a new job all season. None of this is coming as a surprise to MOB.
And I'm sure UT has received several hundred resumes already.
