Interesting thread from the ISU board
No surprise really but it appears that ISU 2016 recruiting class is going to be filled with a lot former UT commits.

http://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/showthre...46fbb89554

Of course if OBrien wants his national search, I suppose it is also reasonable to assume he will expect any new outside coach to recruit his own players that fit into his plans. If the hire is in place by Jan. 1, as OBrien suggested as a desired target date, then this new coach will have all of about 33 days to assemble his staff and fill a large recruiting class.

Exactly. This is why I don't think the job should be given to Candle for "recruiting" reasons alone--we had too many "soft" verbals as it was. These ISU offers are being made--Campbell isn't playing games--he can't afford to pull the offers later if Candle gets the UT job--that would set a bad precedent for him at Iowa State. He wants our recruits so they are likely gone, Candle or no. As quickly as this is happening, though, it does make you wonder where those recruiting files are once again.

If Candle interviews, I hope O'Brien asks him what he would have done differently this season to beat both Northern and Western. See if he has any coaching chops.

My opinion is that's wrong. UT's money and time were used to identify and recruit these kids.

Do you remember Gary Pinkel pulling QB Brad Smith to MO? Didn't Bruce Gradkowski surface around that time at Toledo? Thankfully, the rFR, SO, and JR cupboard is not bare at Toledo. It buys some time, and as mentioned the new coach may have a few of his own. Didn't TJ Fatinukin and Dan Molls get poached from BGSUCKS with the incoming Beckman regime?

I wonder if we will see ISU on schedule anytime soon?

Go Rockets!!

Big difference poaching some BG kids compared to the coach UT was paying 1/2 million a year going after UT commits that were developed on UT's dime. Screw Campbell.

Then again, we could hire someone that makes this board go WOW and all of a sudden, these recruits want to come back to Toledo. Time will tell...

That makes it easy. No reason at all now to hire Candle.

Interesting that fans from a team in the Big 12 are excited that Campbell is offering Toledo commits....6 years @ $2mm a year...low expectations...no brainer he bailed.

I was thinking the same thing! They are happy with MAC-level recruits...priceless. No wonder they don't win the Big 12. Of course, we DID beat them, so maybe our recruits are a step up for Iowa State.

And I do think he would have been under much more pressure to win here for the next couple seasons than he will ever be at Iowa State, so while others may view it as a dead-end job I think he set himself and his family up quite well. Can't fault him for that.

Enough about him. He's moved on and we should too. On to our new coach, whomever that may be!

Didn't Beckman do the same at Illinois? We were in some competition for the same recruits if I remember correctly.

Will never forget stories about Beckmans crew at Illinois hanging out in the parking lots at penn state after the Jerry Sandusky debacle went down.

Penn State fans haven't forgotten either. Had one remind me earlier today.

I think Campbell has targeted a better quality recruit as HC than Beckman.
He didn't follow the same blueprint of his former boss in spite of being his recruiting coordinator.

Yep, I hope UT maintains that standard and does not become the court of last resort for recruits again.
