Quote:How many would show up for a NIU vs UofI bowl game in Detroit?

The last time UofI played in Detroit, they lost to a MAC team -- WMU. Against WMU's coach who now coaches UofI.

Kind of odd how WMU always has more connections to Illinois than NIU does. Weird!

Anyway, that would be Great if NIU played Illinois there!

Some predictors have CMU playing Minnesota.

A decent possibility for Detroit opening up for MAC. All that depends on ESPN handling stuff. But I could easily see them wanting CMU or Toledo to go (fan base nearby). However, if Illinois is slated to go -- I could easily see them putting NIU in there, as that'd be a great interstate matchup on a field NIU calls second home.

I'd personally rather not play U of I. Nothing good comes from playing a 5-7 team.

A lot

However i promise neither school wants that. Exposure is big in bowls and why would we wanna settle for a boring UofI team this year in detroit when we can get boise in san diego or app st in alabama? Better recruiting chances

Don't want to touch that game with a 10ft pole. That is a no win bowl game. Playing a good team with zero positive perception outside of the Sun Belt fans.

Lets be honest the Poinsettia Bowl is going to have crap TV ratings.

Playing UCONN in the Boca bowl would be the best of both worlds (TV and name opponent)

It's appealing for me, but that would be a stupid decision by NIU to accept a bid w/ UofI. There's nothing to gain in this match up, win it... its UofI (yay....), lose it, utter embarrassment losing to a 5-7, dumpster fire team. No don't do it!

I've actually heard rumblings of an NIU return to face off with an AAC team..
UCONN would be a fun opponent

That would be a good one. No big deal if we lose it with our 3rd or 4th string QB...but amazing if we win.

True but no one outside of this board will view it that way.

I would show up, but I agree with other posters that beating a 5-7 team does not prove much. At least the in-state rivalry would make it fun.

Georgia Southern to the Go Daddy and Appalachian State to the Camellia Bowl is starting to gain momentum.

Sounds like a great opportunity for BGSU and Ohio to get 2 wins for the MAC.

The talk on the Georgia Southern message board is that the Go Daddy will take the winner between your team and Bowling Green. Does your team plan on losing to Bowling Green so that ya'll do not end up in Mobile.

Also do not count your chickens before the eggs hatch when it comes to any MAC team beating Georgia Southern or AppSt. Both might be new to FBS but neither is your average Sun Belt team from years past.

Valley Boy, that is the point. Great risk of losing, little upside with a win.

There probably are some uneducated people here who think we would roll those teams but the majority see it the way that sarasotahuskie mentioned. The media/casual fan interest in a MAC vs Sun-Belt game will be minimal. There's just not a whole lot to gain for the program in terms of fan/media perception. Meanwhile if we lose everyone here will freak out about how we can't win a bowl game, even vs a Sun Belt team.

We know GA So is good but unfortunately there is no upside to playing them so I really hope NIU doesn't play them.
