Matt Campbell-missed opportunity
By that I mean a statement from a well known Launchpad poster(Terry). And I quote " MC had as close of a chance (5 point loss to Western) to possibly gaining an opportunity to a NY6 bowl game as he will ever get". At Iowa State there is no chance in hell that program will ever be in a high level bowl, let alone close to ever winning the big 12. He may string together a couple 6-6 or 7-5 type seasons, but unless ISU joins the MAC, I highly doubt there will be any future championship banners in Ames, Iowa.

I agree, ISU is a nice place to coach and retire. No way they will ever win any championships. To many big schools he will have to compete for good players.

Allow me to provide another perspective...given how MC idolizes Urban, maybe he's plotting out his career in a similar fashion?? Remember, Meyer didn't move to what would now be a P5 school....Utah was still in the MWC when he left for SLC.

The point being that he doesn't have to win a National Championship in Ames; all he has to do is string together a series of 8-9 win seasons in order to position himself for the next move. Won't disagree with your comment re: recruiting competition; but there's also a much larger talent base being he can recruit from Ohio all the way down to Texas.

Regardless I wish MC nothing but the best. He got the program back on the map and is leaving it in a pretty good place.

Hasn't he also said he would like to be the Ohio State head coach in the future? May be the heir apparent to Meyer when he retires, but he would have to have outstanding years in Ames to convince that fanbase and alumni he is worth the look. Fickel would not be happy either, but he did not do very well during his year of opportunity. He will need to leave and also get a HC job somewhere to come back and be the man. He probably just needs to try and stay as the DC and earn a lot of money doing that.

There's a very good chance he's going to have to deal with something he's never dealt with: losing. Looking at a conference, it's usually not that hard to find about half of them that can be passed by the right coach.

B12?

The two Kansas are passable. Who else?

Good question; Texas Tech and (in the near term) Texas; perhaps Okie State? No way on TCU, Baylor and OU though...not as long as their respective head coaches are in place;
