Especially the yellow pants with the yellow jerseys! Words can't describe that uniform.
Ugliest uniform ever worn in Kidd Brewer Stadium. Thanks Nike!
I loved it! Also, our "yeller" gold sets us apart from all of the other schools that use an "old" gold. I like that we're different
There are numerous schools that use Yellar as well. Prior to 1983 App's official color was Old Gold. The issue with me is why it was changed. Our AD at that time, a guy from Texas who has been in Boone less than a year, made the decision to change it. He didn't consult anyone, just made the decison. The reason for his decision was not to be different and contrary to a popular myth not because he didn't like being the same as Wake Forest. It was because the uniform supplier we were using at the time - a sporting goods store in North Wilkesboro - didn't have as supplier that offered Old Gold any longer. Why didn't he just go to another supplier you might ask. This supplier also donated a fair amount of money to the athletics department (aka a kickback) and they weren't going to lose that. So instead of sticking with tradition and finding another source that supplied Old / Vegas Gold he simply switched to what was called Athletic Gold or PMS 109.
Having been in the coatings business for nearly 30 years I'll admit this is something I probably pay more attention to than the average fan. But I'm also a ticked we allowed this guy to kick history & traditon to the curb in favor of a few bucks.
For reference, not that it matters.
Old Gold formerly used by App is Pantone 871.
Athletic Gold first used by ASU in 1983 is Pantone 109.
Appalachian's official colors today are Pantone are 115 & 116 - because that's what Nike uses.
Interestingly enough Old Gold 871 is still an official Appalachian color, but is restricted and authorized only for use by the Office of the Chancellor and Office of University Communications.
