RE: New Football Coach Thread
What is former Rocket great Matt Eberflus doing now days? Didn't he go with Pinkel to Missouri? Lost track of him...

Or I'd take a look at the coaches at North Dakota State and James Madison...

He's still off the rails.

Last I heard Eberflus left for the Browns, and most recently was on the staff with the Dallas Cowboys. I suggested this name in another string.

Thanks, both! That will teach me not to read all of the other threads before I post! He was the name that quickly came to my mind, though...

I voted Chud because the Browns didn't like him, he has to be good. Probably a big pay-cut though. OB should at least ask the Colts if he can be interviewed, if only for a hometown meal.

He wants to be an NFL HC... Don't see him coming back to the college game.

Besides staying in-house, what about Jim Harding? Maumee & UT great, current OC for Utah. Has paid his dues under Pinkel and his coordinators. Family still lives in Maumee. Great guy!

If Les Miles is fired from LSU (looks like he's not now), go for him! LOL.

Eberflus has been in the NFL for a long time, but he does have a very good resume including the DC at Missouri. Went to Whitmer and I think his wife did too.

BG has done a very good job hiring !-AA head coaches. CMU hired a DII head coach (Kelly) and now have a former NFL assistant.

I really just hope we don't pull the trigger too soon. I've resigned myself to expect that it will be Candle...but I hope he has to "earn" it in competition with a few other folks, rather than simply being anointed in the next couple days...This is a good job at this level--there will be some external interest.

Eberflus is in Dallas as LBs coach. He is on the fast track for an NFL DC position. It would be a step back for him to come back and be HC at UT. I don't expect he is an option

How about Jon Heacock? He's got something started defensively, he knows the kids, and he's definitely paid his dues. I know he's about 55 years old, but maybe he's ready stay in one place.
He also may be able to retain some of the staff, and with his connections, I'm sure he could hire excellent assistants where needed.
Go Rockets!!!!

If Candle is the replacement then that is such a disservice to the fan base and donors to not have a national search for the next head coach. I may even suggest that MOB look elsewhere for employment.

Don't tell me we can't attract someone with just as much or better credentials than anyone on the staff right now. This is a very intriguing job for an aspiring head coach. We have history, we have a solid fan base, and we have national recognition. This has to be a good job to aspiring coaches...

There's a good thought and with the chance we just also lost our o-line coach, Harding would be a good evaluator for that position. A young guy with connections around the country.

Still want them to interview Chud. Offense off the charts and HC experience! If only to say they were able to get him in for the interview.

Andy Boyd should be the next head coach. Stop making Toledo a stepping stone for aspiring coaches.
