The Million Dollar "Apprehensive" WMU Game Question
So this is the million dollar, post thanksgiving, post 2 days with in-laws, post 2 days with a 2 year old golden retriever, post 2 days with an infant daughter, post a Friday afternoon in a crappy rainstorm, post 4- Two Hearted Ales question. If Matt Campbell was busy this week. posting his resume on Monster.com, did this lead to an "apprehensive" performance against WMU a week before the MACC? If so, I will gladly help him pack for short changing and shafting UT fans.

The Million Dollar "Apprehensive" WMU Game Question
His agent probably did all the talking for him. That's what they are paid to do. Plus I don't know about anyone else, if some one is offering me more than 2 million dollars a year to coach a game. I'm going to take it.

RE: The Million Dollar "Apprehensive" WMU Game Question
Every year teams have coaches leave right after saying they have no interest in any other job. Not right but that's how it's done.

RE: The Million Dollar "Apprehensive" WMU Game Question
Didn't see anything in the NIU or WMU games from the coaches markedly different than in any of the previous games, which is why they were probably losses. No media leaks. I'd say the job interviews were handled without effect on the games. If players knew or suspected, that could lead to some distraction I suppose.

It's part of the biz. As long as these negotiations are permitted in-season, these distractions are a possibility. Remember the distractions when the S. Carolina coach quit mid season?

There are a lot of jobs open right now so don't be surprised if Babers, Fleck and Carey all get offers as well.

I say we offer to make Babers the highest paid coach in the MAC. He knows our personnel and it will not take him long to relocate.

I'd much rather have Cary than Babers...but either would be a marked improvement over Campbell. Babers won with less overall talent and Carey won after losing two key players - although the loss to OU would be concerning. It's too much like we have already seen here.

There is no way the team was not hearing rumblings. The focus has to be 100% on the game in front of you ( especially if it is a championship game, which the WMU game was). UT came out of the game looking lethargic. Any distraction from the game plan preparation can lead to a poor performance like we saw on Friday. I would without question, this was the cause and it is a shame and I think there should be a rule this NO potential candidates for a job opening can be talked too until after Championship Weekend. The NFL does this, why not the NCAA?

I posted something similar on another thread. Rumors are too prevalent in all work environments.

I would not be surprised if Campbell had his agent - whoever it is - contact Iowa State. No way did this all happen after the WMU game. It was in place and all but wrapped up before Thanksgiving - and you can take that to the bank. Pretty sure he knew the situation with Rhoades needing to make a bowl game to keep his job, and he likely had things in motion to express his interest a few weeks ago.

Campbell's mind and heart were elsewhere this past Friday and we faithful supporters have to suffer the consequences, even worse the players have to suffer. No wonder last Friday was one of the biggest letdowns in Rocket history. Thanks a lot, Campbell.

Very difficult for the players I'm sure.

I'm more pi$$ed about this than I am with Beckman. I think we all felt Beckman was looking for his next opportunity as soon as he arrived - and with not that stellar of a background for the HC position at Toledo. Campbell spun his tales of loyalty, commitment, that small town "aw shucks" type of guy. BS.

Oh you have it wrong...clearly Ya Boy Campbell was 100% focused on the game and we lost purely because of Alonzo Russell. Campbell can do no wrong...

Moto, the Iowa St AD was in Detroit/Toledo on Friday.
This was already all lined up before the game was played.
