Won't matter. He can get more. By making this public, Toledo will have to pay their next coach more, too.

"The Blade" reporting Campbell gone to lowa State is done.

( I've questioned more of his in game decision making than Carey's over the last few years.)

Rumors were that Mizzou made a last ditch effort. Surprising he went with Iowa state over Mizzou

That all depends on who they hire. They didn't have to worry about making this public, UT is a public university and all records are subject to the freedom of information act. It will be very hard to win the Big Twelve in Ames, but he did land at a school that would be happy with going 6 and 6, 7 and 5, 8 and 4 and be able to stay there for a long time with some decent records.

It would have been really tough to step into the footsteps of former UT coach Gary Pinkel at Mizzou because they had some good years and keep that going wouldn't be easy. Maybe he is thinking the only way to go is up at ISU?

This quote from the article made me laugh. Ralph Russo should know better.

Quote:at will keep the Rockets out of the MAC championship game. Not having to prepare for a title game leaves Campbell free to meet with potential suitors sooner than other candidates that still have games to coach.

Take your "process" and your minions with you Campbell, and don't let the gates of the Glass Bowl hit you in the ass!!! You leave no legacy whatsoever here at Toledo.

Sound familiar?

Oh my! Yes it does....

I'll admit it....That was me too back in December of 2010.
The loss was a such a 03-nutkick and then to have your HC leave almost immediately is another 03-nutkick

Well unless they go with a "happy to be here" coach....you gotta figure their agent will know they've said they're willing to pay top MAC dollar.

YES. It actually was IMMEDIATELY. The team hadn't even taken off their uniforms & he was out the door.
There is apparently no coach anywhere with any respect or principles. It's all about that mighty $$. NIU was kind enough let Dave Doeren stay with Wisky to coach them thru the Rose Bowl game before he left to come to NIU. Did he stick around for US for the Orange Bowl before he left for NCState? No. I am not holding a grudge against DD I am just pointing it out. I won't go into the Kill mess. We all know about that one. He took everyone with him. Didn't leave us anyone but good old Tuke. (Thank goodness for Coach Tuke!)

I understand that coaches leave - move on up the next rung of the ladder. But none of them stick around to finish their current job by coaching the bowl games for the team they are leaving. It just seems wrong to me every time it happens to any college team.

This. The next coach at Missouri has to take some heat before things are resolved there. My guess is the next coach has to take the hit after a couple of years, which will help to stabilize things there, and then the next coach will be in a position to succeed. I don't wish Mizzou on anyone but PJ right now (and I really do appreciate the assist on Friday).

But, but, Missouri is in the South Eastern Conference, a perfect fit.

NCAA football is a business, providing a good share of the funding for other athletic programs......it's nice to talk about the "student athlete", but really? Having said that, I believe NIU strives to have players keep up their grades/education focus. The sad thing: coaches can pick up and leave, players can't.

And it didn't matter. No reason to pay more than the minimum for a HC. Paying their assistants the best in the conference along with giving the HC a long term contract is likely a better route to go.

The way of Capitalism is to reward good performance with higher pay.
Paying the coaches a market based salary makes allot more sense than spending the money on other athletics programs(that lose money) or stadium additions.

I want to see NIU Football remain a winning program and top dog in the MAC.
The key critical success factor is coaches pay.
No successful coach wants to work for a minimum HC wage after three successful years. I think that NIU alumni donations would be better spent towards a FB coaches and assistant coaches fund than going directly to the NIU Athletic department.
Any FB HC that makes it to Detroit three times in a row deserves more than minimum pay. If NIU athletics does not understand that, then I fear that NIU FB will not be able to attract the high level of coaching talent necessary to maintain this incredible streak of NIU FB success.
